🦉 The Eurasian nuthatch or wood nuthatch (Sitta europaea)

  • Sitta sittē (Greek) mentioned by Aristotle and other ancient Greek. by the authors of the bird, something similar to the woodpecker
  • europaea (lat.) European

I am always amazed at how these short guys run along the bark of a tree. These birds themselves are interesting and fun to watch. However, in the summer, when I took these pictures, the visible activity of these, and indeed all other birds, is practically invisible. The birds are secretive, because they feed and raise their young.

In addition to the ability to run in trees in any direction and even upside down, these birds are known for their urge to create food reserves. They carefully hide excess food in various cracks in the bark or any other holes in them.
