The world population by 1920 was 1.2 billion people, 20-40 million deaths (which is actually a low estimate due to the aftermath of the war and minimal reporting methods in rural europe and asia. more realistic is 60million deaths or 5% of humans) would be around 1.6%-3.3% of the human population at that point. NOT 1/3 or 400 million deaths! 600 million are estimated to have been infected or roughly 50% of the human population, meaning the death rate was between a low of 3% to as high as 10%.
