Delicious Anticipation: The Joy of Eating
I enjoy thinking about food, cooking, eating, and even preparing and cleaning up, even though I'm not a great chef. I know basic food preparation, but I don’t mind challenging myself with new recipes as long as they’re not too complicated.
Typical Japanese meals consist of many small dishes, including a main dish and usually a soup. However, I prefer not to use too many small dishes because handling a lot of tableware can be a hassle.
Recently, I found a very simple and useful large plate that allows me to serve multiple foods at the same time. Since I started using it, I feel happier when eating. Today, I’d like to share some of my "One Plate Dishes."
One Plate Dishes
Plate 1
This plate includes ketchup rice with carrots, onions, and bacon, scallops with butter soy sauce, baked sweet potatoes with olive oil, dried chives, salt and pepper, cinnamon powder, and some vegetables.
I love sweet potatoes, and the scallops were super tasty!
Plate 2
Here, I have quinoa, pork with kimchi and bean sprouts, and some vegetables.
I like to eat quinoa sometimes instead of rice. It’s a superfood packed with calcium and potassium, which are great for preventing and healing anemia.
Plate 3
This dish contains lentils, curry with cheese, and turmeric rice.
My husband cooked this for us. It was very filling and delicious! I’m going to have the leftover curry with naan tonight.
Bonus: A Bowl of Comfort
This is tofu, carrot, and baby bok choy miso soup.
A Sweet Treat: Oh Henry!
This is my husband’s favorite Canadian candy bar from his childhood, called Oh Henry! When I first saw it, I immediately thought of the American novelist O. Henry. Out of curiosity, I checked the brand’s history and found that it is actually connected to his name!
Originally from the U.S., Oh Henry! is still manufactured and sold in Canada in a slightly different version. This candy bar contains peanuts, caramel, and fudge coated in chocolate. It's such a rich and satisfying treat!

Oh Henry!

Good afternoon, it is always a pleasure to support a member of the community.
My best wishes.
Omg, this, haha. That's why having a big plate at home is really helpful if you have a lot if side dishes in the table. And coz I'm always in charge doing the dishes, I hate it when there's more than two two side dishes, a cup for those sauces is not even included yet. Haha. But yeah, Japanese and Korean as I see it always has a lot of side dishes. They always use small cups and isn't it too hard to wash them?.
Anyways the foods here looks all delicious. I want that one, the miso soup. I'm craving for a soup rn coz it's cold in our place rn ✨😆
Yeah, exactly! In Japan, people always have many different types of small dishes for each meal. It can be troublesome to wash them sometimes. However, some people don’t use dishwashers and wash by hand after each meal. Moreover, in Japanese restaurants, workers have to wash many small dishes all the time!
This looks delicious!😋 Hope you had a nice time!
Thank you!! They were pretty good!
