Hola, comunidad Hive! Antes que nada, supe de Hive por mi sobrina @imbby17 y su papá @hlezama, quienes me animaron a formar parte de esta gran comunidad y me han dado algunas recomendaciones sobre esta plataforma de la cual tengo mucho aprender.
First of all, I learned about Hive from my niece @imbby17 and her father @hlezama, who have been encouraging me to be part of this great community and giving me some tips about the platform. I still have a lot to learn.
Mi nombre es Zulay, tengo 48 años y soy una venezolana viviendo en la Ciudad de Antofagasta, Chile. Me gradué en Educación Mención Inglés, profesión que pensé que ejercería toda mi vida. Pero, cuando salí de Venezuela me vi en la necesidad de trabajar vendiendo postres, lo que se convirtió en un negocio y uno de mis proyectos de vida.
)Hello, Hive community! My name is Zulay, I am 48 years old and I am a Venezuelan living in the city of Antofagasta, Chile. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Education with a minor in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, a profession that I thought I would practice all my life. However, when I left Venezuela I found the need to work selling desserts, which became a business and one of my life projects.
Después de graduarme de la universidad en Cumaná, Edo Sucre; salí embarazada, tuve a mi bebé, conseguí trabajo y, como todos, llevaba una vida normal. Un día, cuando mi bebé tenía casi 3 añitos enfermó y le diagnosticaron una Neumonía severa complicada. Lo hospitalizaron y luego lo ingresaron a terapia intensiva. A partir de ese momento mi vida cambió. Fueron los 3 meses más angustiantes de mi vida. Sin embargo, siempre me mantuve abrazada a Diocito, con el corazón lleno de esperanza y con fe de que esa pesadilla terminaría pronto y regresaría a casa con mi hijito. Pero, lamentablemente, no fue así y ahora mi niño está en un mejor lugar, cuidándome desde el cielo.
After graduating from university in Cumaná, Sucre State, I got pregnant, had my baby, got a job and, like everyone else, led a normal life. One day, when my baby was almost three years old, he got sick and was diagnosed with severe and complicated pneumonia. He was hospitalized and then admitted to intensive care. From that moment on my life changed. It was the most distressing three months of my life. However, I always kept hugging my faith to God, with my heart full of hope that this nightmare would end soon and I would return home with my little son. Unfortunately, that was not the case and now my child is in a better place, watching over me from heaven.
Por mucho tiempo sentí que Dios me había abandonado y entré en una etapa de rebeldía con él debido a que no podía entender como pudo quitarme a lo que más he amado en la vida. Después de la partida de mi bebé, nunca más volví a ser la misma mujer. Me encontraba sumida en la tristeza y el dolor más grande que se puede sentir, un dolor que ahoga y no te deja respirar. Me costó años, unas visitas al psicólogo y algunos libros, entender que la pregunta que debía hacerme no era POR QUÉ sino PARA QUÉ y ha sido esta última pregunta lo que me ha ayudado a entender el propósito que Dios o el universo tiene para cada persona.
For a long time I felt that God had abandoned me and I rebelled against him because I could not understand how he could take from me what I loved the most in life. After my baby's departure, I was never the same woman again. I was plunged into sadness and the greatest pain you can feel, a pain that suffocates and does not let you breathe. It took me years, a few visits to a psychologist and some books to understand that the question I had to ask myself was not WHY but WHAT FOR and it has been this last question that has helped me understand the purpose that God or the universe has for each person.
Hace más de 19 años desde que perdí a mi angelito y, desde entonces, he estado aprendiendo a enfocar mi felicidad en otras cosas, especialmente en crear. Debo decir que mi dolor no se ha ido o desaparecido, sólo sigue ahí dormido y despierta de vez en cuando; no para hacerme sufrir sino para recordarme cuanto se puede amar.
It has been over 19 years since I lost my little angel and since then I have been learning to focus my happiness on other things, especially creating. I must say that my pain has not gone away or disappeared, it is just still there like a sleeping monster, but it lurks and wakes up from time to time, not to make me suffer but to remind me how much it is possible to love.
Pasado un año aproximadamente, me divorcié del papá de mi bebé. Como les dije ya no era la misma persona. Estaba sumergida en el dolor, sentía que caía en un pozo oscuro sin fondo de donde nadie podía salvarme. En resumen, no quería vivir. Para mí todo dejó de tener sentido y aunque, aparentaba estar bien por fuera, por dentro mi mundo era lúgubre, inhóspito, lo más feo que te puedas imaginar y además, tomando pastillas para la depresión. En este sentido, mi vida era un completo desastre y eso me estaba afectando en todos los ámbitos, especialmente en lo laboral. Mi familia, preocupada por mi estado mental y emocional me convenció que me fuera a vivir con ellos a Puerto Ordaz, Edo Bolívar.
After a year or so, I divorced my baby's father. As I told you, I was no longer the same person. I was immersed in pain. I felt like I was falling into a bottomless dark pit from which no one could save me. In short, I didn't want to live. For me everything stopped making sense and although, I appeared to be fine on the outside, inside my world was gloomy, inhospitable, the ugliest thing you can imagine and also, taking pills for depression. In this sense, my life was a complete disaster and it was affecting me in all areas, especially at work. My family, worried about my mental and emotional state, convinced me to go live with them in Puerto Ordaz, Edo Bolivar.
En esta ciudad quise empezar de nuevo. Logré entrar a trabajar como profesora de inglés en la UNEXPO y la UCAB Guayana. Luego, conocí a mi actual esposo, @n4nd0, y con él empezamos un lindo proyecto desde casa, una pequeña academia de clase particulares de inglés y matemáticas para estudiantes de nivel básico, diversificado y universitario.
In this city I wanted to start over. I managed to get a job as an English teacher at UNEXPO and UCAB Guayana. Then, I met my current husband, @n4nd0, and with him we started a nice project from home, a small academy of private English and math classes for elementary, high school and university students.
Tiempo después, abrimos unas tareas dirigidas, pero la crisis política de Venezuela provocó que se generaran protestas y enfrentamientos contra el gobierno de Maduro y bueno, la urbanización donde vivíamos fue uno de los puntos álgidos de estos enfrentamientos; estábamos en el ojo de huracán. Por las mañanas, el patio y el porche de la casa amanecían llenos de cartuchos de bombas lacrimógenas. Una vez estando con los niños de las tareas dirigidas empezaron los enfrentamientos y la casa se nos llenó de gases por todas las bombas lacrimógenas que lanzaban los militares a los jóvenes que protestaban. Como resultado, tuvimos que suspender las clases y replantearnos nuestro futuro. Fue así como en ese momento decidimos irnos de mi Venezuela querida, siendo Chile el país de destino, primero porque los padres de mi esposo son chilenos y segundo porque mi hermano menor ya se había venido a vivir en este país.
Some time later, we opened what we call homework tutoring, but the political crisis in Venezuela caused protests and clashes against the Maduro government and well, the neighborhood where we lived was one of the hot spots of these clashes; we were in the eye of the hurricane. In the mornings, the courtyard and the porch of the house were filled with tear gas shells. Once we were with the children from the homework tutoring and the confrontations began. The house was filled with gas from all the tear gas bombs that the military threw at the young people who were protesting. As a result, we had to cancel classes and rethink our future. It was then that we decided to leave my beloved Venezuela. We chose Chile as our destination, first because my husband's parents are Chilean and second because my younger brother had already come to live in this country.
Cuando llegamos a Chile, específicamente a Antofagasta, tres meses después trabajé por un semestre en un instituto técnico. También había conseguido trabajar en un instituto de inglés en el que aun doy unas pocas horas de clases. Pero, antes de empezar a trabajar dando clases, mi suegra me sugirió vender quesillos, postre típico venezolano, para así ir haciendo algo de dinero hasta conseguir un trabajo formal. Pero, lo que empezó como algo temporal se convirtió en un negocio al que me dedicó casi al 100%. Describí que lo de hacer tortas se me daba muy fácilmente y en consecuencia, decidí emprender y tener mi propio negocio, @zu_pasteleria, donde elaboramos tortas artesanales y de diseño.
When we arrived in Chile, specifically in Antofagasta, three months later, I worked for a semester in a technical institute. I had also managed to work in an English institute where I still teach a few hours of classes. But, before I started working as a teacher, my mother-in-law suggested that I sell quesillos, a typical Venezuelan dessert, in order to make some money until I could get a formal job. But, what started as something temporary became a business to which I dedicated myself almost 100%. I described that making cakes came very easily to me and consequently, I decided to start my own business, @zu_pasteleria, where we make handmade and designer cakes.
Para dar a conocer nuestros productos mi esposo y yo fuimos de puerta en puerta ofreciendo nuestros postres y tortas. No fue fácil, pero hoy puedo decir que hemos creado una marca que está creciendo poco a poco y que gracias a Dios las personas, tantos chilenas como de otras nacionalidades se han convertido en clientes de nuestro gran proyecto como lo es Zupastelería. Ahora me dedico a la repostería desde casa y me siento muy orgullosa de lo que hago porque es algo que me apasiona y además me pagan por hacerlo.
To make our products known my husband and I went door to door offering our desserts and cakes. It was not easy, but today I can say that we have created a brand that is growing little by little and thanks to God people, both Chilean and of other nationalities, have become customers of our great project as it is Zupasteleria. Now I dedicate myself to baking from home and I feel very proud of what I do because it is something I am passionate about and also I get paid for doing it.
El mundo de la repostería es muy diverso, competitivo y donde todos los días surgen nuevas tendencias, por ende todos los días se aprende algo nuevo y fue la repostería lo que me motivó a aprender a pintar porque la idea es pintar figuras sobre pasta de fondant para decorar las tortas. Confieso que lo de pintar nunca se me dio. Sin embargo, casi a mis 50 años, puedo decir que me siento una mujer más segura y empoderada, que desea aprender cosas que antes pensaba que eran imposibles para mí. Pero, en este largo camino de la vida me he dado cuenta que nacemos con el poder de hacer cualquier cosa y que las limitaciones las ponemos nosotros mismo. Aunque, también creo fielmente que nunca esta demás esa persona que nos da ese empujoncito y nos ayuda a darnos cuenta de todo el potencial que hay dentro de cada uno de nosotros.
The world of pastry is very diverse and competitive. Every day, new trends emerge, so you learn something new every day. It was the pastry that motivated me to learn to paint because the idea is to paint figures on fondant paste to decorate cakes. I confess that I have never been good at painting. However, now in my late forties, I can say that I feel a more confident and empowered woman, who wants to learn things that I thought were impossible for me before. On this long road of life I have come to realize that we are born with the power to do anything and that the limitations are set by ourselves. Although, I also faithfully believe that it is always a blessing to have another person to give us that little push to help us to realize all the potential that lies within each one of us.
