Please Don't Feed the Children (2024)

The film starts with a frenetic pace from minute one, something that is always appreciated in the midst of so many long films.

And its director, Destry Allen Spielberg, is the daughter of the King Midas of cinema himself: Spielberg.

The plot takes us to a post-pandemic world where adults have been decimated, and only teenagers seem immune to the disease.

They don't waste time explaining too much about the virus because that's not what the story is about.

Here we follow a teenage girl who dreams of crossing the country to start a new life, but on her journey she stumbles upon the home of a bloodthirsty woman with a shady past.

Apart from the simplicity of the plot, it seems crazy to me that the film took only 18 days to shoot, given the result. It really is. Also, the cast includes the great Giancarlo Esposito, but no, he doesn't play the villain this time.

It's a thriller with several twists, but sorry, Destry, some of them are quite predictable. Still, it's a pleasure to watch, whether it's for the zombies or the palpable tension conveyed by Michelle Dockery, who I'm sure you remember from Downton Abbey.

It's short and to the point, you won't get bored. Destry knows very well how to get the best out of this group of teenagers.

I wouldn't like to finish without mentioning the great Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul). This time it's his turn to dance with a character of integrity who fights against something he doesn't even understand. I would also like to highlight Michelle Dockery as the baddest baddie.

Hive Power Up Day - March 1st 2025

I didn't know about this film, I'm glad Spielberg's daughter is following in her father's footsteps.
