I shared this the other day, and I wanted to elaborate. Todd Willingham was executed by the state, but now the general consensus is that he didn't set the fire. If he had only suffered amputations he'd still be around to hold the system accountable for his wrongful conviction.

But since he's not around, those responsible will never have any consequences. This creates an incentive to expedite the execution if there is a chance they might be innocent, which is what happened in this case.
