If you have been following my updates for the past few days, you would have noticed that I mentioned the challenges I faced in getting water to irrigate my crops and plantation, as well as to provide for my livestock. The situation was so dire that I had to travel several miles just to fetch water—even for something as basic as taking a bath.
This is not to say we didn’t make efforts to secure a reliable water source. In fact, we dug a well during the dry season last year, hoping it would be durable and prevent the kind of problems we are experiencing now. Unfortunately, it is heartbreaking that the well dried up early this February, leaving us stranded. This has caused us a great deal of stress, especially considering that I have a child at home who requires a lot of water for washing clothes and other household needs.
Since then, I have been thinking about possible solutions to prevent this crisis from recurring. I decided to contact a borehole company, as the well was no longer a viable option. I spoke with the company manager, and when I heard the price, I was terrified—I had no idea how I would raise that amount of money in such a short time. Left with no choice, I started reaching out for financial assistance wherever possible. Thankfully, I received help from friends who didn’t want me to struggle any further, and my husband covered the majority of the expenses.
The borehole company came to survey the area and analyze how deep they would need to dig. After their analysis, they began work last Saturday. However, during the drilling process, their machine developed a fault and had to be repaired. As a result, they had to stop for the day, even though they had reached about half of the proposed depth. Since the next day was Sunday, they couldn’t continue, and they focused on fixing the machine before resuming work.
Today, they finally arrived early in the morning, even though I was already at work. They resumed drilling, and before long, they reached the water level. I was overjoyed when I received their call informing me of their success. Why was I so happy? I had heard of cases where people hired borehole services, only for the drilling company to abandon the project after failing to find water. So, it was truly a relief that they succeeded in reaching the water level.
Now, I no longer have to travel several miles just to fetch water. I can confidently water my crops and plantation at any time without worrying about the water source drying up. It will also save me from the stress of manually watering the crops—I can simply get a hose and let it flow.
Those who say “water is life” are absolutely right. Without water, life becomes chaotic. Just imagine the condition of a home without water—everything would be polluted and disorganized.
Congratulations on the water. Water problems when it comes to planting is always a big issue, and it's also quite expensive. Imagine digging, spending money and not getting water
Yes, oo, it happens. I have heard people paying through their nose and still not getting water.
