Bubble Crabs that make Fractals on the beach

in WE ARE MOVING2 years ago

As I was wondering the beach along the sunshine coast on the island Koh Rong Sanloem Cambodia, I came across these little crabs that made the most beautiful display of a entrance to there hole in the sand. I was fascinated that this much work went into a display that within 6 hours would go away.

Along this beach the crabs build their homes. Lets lean in a have a look.

It is as if those balls of sand are to mimic other crabs waiting outside the cave of this crab. Attracting a mate by way of a nice place to come and lay down. That is why I went with the grass hut on the beach for my friend and I.

Is this the trick business use? To pay people to form a line outside a shop. People tend to gather in lines even if they do not know why. Human nature can be unique and diverse, and sometimes it can be sheepish and fallow the crowd for no reason. Is this display of many crabs outside the cave a way to attract a mate by way of being accepted by the crowd?

Super cool mouthy bity parts that look flat against the shell of the crab.
As though this crab could turn into a ball and roll away just as fast as scampering across the beach, sideways.

I watch as the crab builds and rolls balls of sand across the opening meticulous forming each grain of sand into pack of ball.

I try to take pictures of the crab moving but it seems to know and stops just as I start to take a picture. Like it knows and does not want its action photographed.

These crabs as identified as - Sand Bubbler Crab.
These crabs make these bubble of sand after consuming he plankton and detritus during low tide. When the tide comes in these crabs hid under the sand in a bubble of air. They hang in the air pocket until the ocean changes tide so they can emerge to resume eating and making bubbles of sand.
The forming of bubble protects the cave from the water so that when the tide does come in the sand will direct the water to the area the crab needs.
I wish I too better pictures and more of the orientation of this crab house as the water will form a nice pool when it starts to come in.

I walk further down the beach and see another decent crab display.
Lets have a look.

Notice the concentration of sand bubbles around the opening of the hole.
Fractals are a natural phenomenon that occur all around us. It is times like these that awe can see a fraction of the fractal and a little string of it displayed in sand before us.

The lines are not straight and neither is the pattern but he symmetry that would be fully formed would blow your mind if this place was not disturbed.

Thanks for having a look at these Bubble crabs. These photos were taken in Cambodia on the island of Koh Rong Sanloem.
I will be doing and have been doing some Scuba diving training during the day. No underwater pictures yet. I have to figure out how to breath underwater before then.

That is so awesome, the art that nature makes is always fascinating.

such a clever crab.

I really thought so, those crabs are more advanced then most. Such a beautiful original different design they make, in under 6 hours too.
Thank for having a look at my work. !LUV
