One Third of My Way...

in Splinterlands22 hours ago

Last few hours of the season for Ranked Play at Splinterlands, and it is time for me to see what's my progress toward completing the Rebellion SB set.

I keep hearing about people already maxing out or close to maxing out their SB set and thinking they'll get bored until the next one comes out, while I, while playing mostly in CL3, am still so far away... That's quite discouraging, to be honest, but I can't imagine how it must be for someone who earns much less Glint than I do... Of course, probably they don't aim to max out the entire set, which is understandable.

When I hear things like new SB sets every 6 months some propose, I can't help but wonder what would be the value of these cards and by extension, the value of core set cards, if something like that happens...

Here are two ideas for them, to not get so bored:

  • either try to max out the GF set instead (or parts of it)
  • or get multiple maxed (or not?) RF SB sets, if you want to play Survival mode

I guess I have nothing to do but to continue on my own path and see where it leads... A new SB set is unlikely to come out before Conclave Arcana, and after that, I don't see it coming out before the beginning of Q3 2025. It doesn't make sense to overshadow the core set with a new SB set release as well, plus the team needs time to work on it.

Let's get back to my progress update for maxing out the SB set.

I've got pretty lucky this season with the tier advancement rewards, especially from CL3 to CL2, pulling one legendary and 2 epics, among the top ones. That's natural, in my opinion, unlike last season, when they were quite crappy at CL2. Of course, randomness may create anomalies at any tier.

Unlike last season, I was able to purchase all 10 legendary draws this time around. With the few remaining Glint, I purchased 3 rare draws and 3 common draw, depleting my Glint stash.

That makes it easy to see how much Glint I earned this season (including the season rewards from last season). That makes it a total of 352,700 Glint used for draw purchases this season. Last season I had a total of 344,400 Glint in purchases. That means I earned 8,300 more Glint this season.

Let's keep a table too, going forward:

Season since New SB SetGlint Used to Purchase DrawsDifference
Season 5363,200
Season 6344,400-18,800 Glint
Season 7 (current)352,700+8,300 Glint
Last 3 seasons' average353,433

Let's see what my current situation of the Rebellion SB set completion progress is so far:

Season since New SB SetCommons %Rares %Epics %Legendaries %
Season 11 / 02 / 08 / 09 / 0
Season 22 / 12 / 09 / 017 / 0
Season 33 / 12 / 010 / 023 / 0
Season 45 / 23 / 112 / 027 / 0
Season 57 / 24 / 213 / 036 / 0
Season 68 / 35 / 215 / 042 / 0
Season 7 (current)9 / 36 / 215 / 051 / 0

That's +9% to the progress of legendary cards, which is looking good. No progress to epic cards (although I pulled 2 of them on CL2 rewards), but I don't worry about them, they are fewer and when I start focusing on them, progress will go up much faster than on any of the others. +1% to rare cards, and +1% to RF common cards is minimal, but I haven't focused on them yet.

My first objective is to max out my first legendary card, which may happen in 1-2 seasons. After which, I'll switch focus, because I might receive a double, which means wasted Glint. That can be avoided when there are other options.

Here are the "before and after" snapshots. "Before" first:

4 at level 3, 6 at level 2 and 2 at level 1

And now the "after":

My Rebellion legendary SB reward cards: 7 at level 3, 4 at level 2 and 1 at level 1.

Basically, in terms of levels, three level 2 legendary cards have been upgraded to level 3, and one level 1 card has been upgraded to level 2.

Perhaps a more relevant metric is the amount of Glint already spent compared to the total amount needed to max out the SB set (only regulars).

Here' s my situation:

Glint needed for a fully upgraded regular Rebellion SB set, w/o doubles:
8,790,000 Glint

Glint value of the cards collected so far (ignore GF and doubles):
2,839,550 Glint

Progress percentage:
32.30%

Estimated time to max out the RF cards (or GF, where possible):
17 more seasons (8.5 months, i.e. mid-August)

414,550 Glint-worth of cards this season, including tier advancement rewards.

I am amazed to hear that some people are already almost done. I wonder if they converted cards from the previous set into Glint in preparation for this set. That way, they can get a head start.

I know some were done with the previous set way earlier too. In my opinion, the only way to gain such a massive time difference is to buy tons of energy.
