For your question, as I write this the opinion of a ping list is unanimously for. For that reason alone, I would say it's a good idea for you to do one. Personally, I am actually neutral. I wouldn't mind the occasional ping, but I don't feel I will miss a post if I don't get one either. You can count that as a "no reason not to" yes.
