Most adults had returned back to work as the Chinese New Year official public holidays had ended. The children were still on school holidays, a super long one-month holiday. I was still on holiday because all my students I was tutoring were still back at hometown. It was 3rd February, my parents and I were discussing where to go for some special early lunch. My father suddenly recalled a place called Pulau Tikus Market at Megah Rise Mall. Since my husband took half a day off, he immediately said he could bring us there.
Pulau Tikus Market
This is situated inside a mall called Megah Rise, a mall I had never been too because I don't prefer to drive too far from where I stay. Thank God for husband that day who was free to bring us there.
Location: G-12, ground floor, Megah Rise Mall, Jalan SS 24/9, Taman Megah, 47301 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
When we arrived, right at the entrance, there was such loud lion dance doing their performance at a shop right in front of Pulau Tikus Market. We needed to wait awhile before the crowd (blocking the restaurant's entrance) dismissed.
We stood there awhile to admire the lion dance while scanning the mall at the same time. It looks like a very comfortable community mall, if I stay around here, I will love this mall.
What's so special about Pulau Tikus to my dad?
He is from Penang and Pulau Tikus is a place at Penang, selling all delicious hawker food. And apparently the owner of this restaurant is from Penang too, came all the way to Selangor to open a restaurant here. All the Penanglites will be so happy to find out this restaurant.
The place was only one-shoplot, so actually is super tiny but cosy enough for a quick dining.
They did up the place to look like hawker, even a street stall in this restaurant, where they would be cooking Penang Kuey Teow Theng ( rice noodle soup).
I love all the food displayed there, really reminded me of childhood. Those time we frequently flew to Penang three to four times a year when my grandparents were still alive.
The waitress was so friendly, upon noticing my parents who were elderly, she presented to us the Senior Citizens menu with extra discounts. So yippee happy.
Looking at menu, we were spoilt with choices. I really felt like ordering all the food haha.
Food we ordered
First and foremost, we ordered the otak-otak because my mother was craving it. It was steamed fish with egg and coconut milk and some spices. So so delicious.
Secondly, my father ordered his childhood food, the economy meehoon with fried fu-chuk pieces. He absolutely loved it and ate with a smile and lots of positive comment.
My youngest son ordered their Kuey Teow Theng, the flat rice noodles soup, to be shared with my Mum. We were absolutely blown away. So yummy and authentic. The boss told us that the flat rice noodles were shipped from Penang weekly, so fresh, so smooth and so pleasant to the palate. The soup was 100% flavourful. You could tell they really boil the soup for hours using duck bones and pork bones. Yums!!!
My husband ordered Assam Laksa and it was so authentic too. Wow!!!! I got to try some. Hehe.
I ordered the Hokkien Mee which is prawn noodle soup in KL, the broth was wowly so prawn-umami packed flavour. They did good job in cooking the prawn noodle soup!
My eldest son ordered their signature chicken chop, fries were sold out and they offered to replace with egg, an even better choice. My son actually rated the chicken chop 10/10.
A few things we ordered for sharing was the lok-bak aka minced five-spice pork wrapped in fu-chuk skin and deep fried, yam 'kuih', Chee Cheong Fun. all the food were tiptop. If only this shop is nearby us...
We thoroughly enjoyed the slow quiet early lunch at the mall, with joyful chit chatting. After that, we walked around the mall again, went to do some groceries, and my youngest son was the happiest as he got to buy Prime, sponsored by my mother. Lol...it was his dream came true.
Eh. Opposite got one 日日升 day day up, got try or not
Not that day cause super crowded, it was the one with super geng lion dance till we couldn't enter the Day Day Up (hope i remember correctly and that we are talking about the same shop, selling some Ipoh signature food one). But we planned for Pulau Tikus Market one. So this Day Day Up will be next trip.😉 You stay near this mall?
No ar. We went there a couple of times lo. The mall itself looks quite empty though, not sure if they can survive with only these few anchor tenants

the place is nice, it's spacious inside, it's nice to see a lot of food to choose from, and your husband was kind enough to bring you there so you can eat a lot, but there's a senior discount so your mother can save money hehe, just enjoy your family, that's your bonding and memory.
