My Wednesday Walk which Made Me Smile today...
When I begun to take a walk after lunch, it was cloudy and although I thought it won´t rain, I still went and simply tried my luck. There are about 5 entrances to the National Park that are located in Vienna. The others are located in the border of Lower Austria and Vienna. In this post, I decided to walk along the fields to Saltenwerkstrasse.
The last time I had been here was I think in March, where the trees were still so bare and waited for the right moment to show the first leaves. Now it is so nice with the green color all over. The water plays an important role here and it is as important because of the aquatic life specially for the birds.
This is a natural park that is well managed by the Austrian Forest Authority. In this age of the pandemic, the Park has been the destinations of the locals. Most take a walk with their families and some make biking trails. The roads had been asphalted and there are biking routes that are just unpaved roads similar to the countryside.
Since they have left the park on a natural basis, they simply cut the trees that are sick and those that begin to rot. They also use the cut tree barks , put them on the side and sometimes place them in the middle of the swamp as a landing for the birds and insects. It also acts as a break for the flow of the water especially when it rains hard.
I think they always control some of the areas where the reeds are growing. In this case, they clean part of the swamp so that visitors could go to the water area. I haven´t seen these reeds here last year, so these must have been new growths.
The roads and the biking trails are long, it can even take a biker to reach the Slovakian border which according to many is a 30 kilometer rail from the Viennese side.
I didn´t spend too long in the park since the showers started , so I simply went back on the road where I came from passing-by the fields. The wildflowers begins to fully bloom as seen from the left and right side of the road. Their growth had been triggered because it was raining the last couple of weeks. I could see them with big smile on my face.
So the trees that you see behind the signboard are those trees in the Park where I came from. The pathway here with the signboard was erected by the local environmentalists about 2 years ago where they also planted trees left and right of the pathway. In a couple of years, they will show a very green area and the locals who love nature who will be threading this way will be happy for the initiative of those people. Now, I am just a few meters away from home. This walk had really made me smile...Until next time!
