This is my entry to today's Monomad Challenge, low key butterflies.

Today's photographs were quite a challenge, and I'm not just saying that because sometimes butterflies or insects are difficult to photograph, I'm saying that because while I was editing I decided I wanted to do a low key style edit, the problem is that the original photographs are actually well exposed and that created a problem that we are going to talk about next.

As I have already mentioned I am working exclusively with the Darktable software, and the truth is that I am quite happy with the results, however I just realized that if I lower the exposure too much while editing, no matter how many adjustments I make at the end after exporting the photo I can see a kind of banding in the color gradient.

I guess it must have to do with how the program handles those color gradients because in other editing programs I don't remember having this problem I mention, of course the safest thing to do is to make some new tests but with underexposed photographs from the beginning and thus be able to compare the results, that will be the goal of this week.

For the moment I hope you liked the result and I would like to know what you prefer more, low or high key?

By the way, once I uploaded the images to hive it seems that the banding I am talking about stopped being a problem, more or less, I was making some adjustments at the end and almost avoided the problem but in the original pictures on my pc you can still see a little bit of that unpleasant effect I mention, there is no other way but to keep experimenting.
