It was a weekday during the last week of my son's school holidays when my friend told me she was here in Kuala Lumpur for an interview. So she asked if I was free to meet up because she has brought a snack over for me.
On usual days, I probably find it difficult to rearrange my time to squeeze in a meet up especially before my tuition. However, the boys were at their grandparents' place that day and coincidentally I could make it as I had 1.5 hours of free time before my next class. That is by sacrificing the naptime that I usually do for 20 minutes.
It was so impromptu so we agreed to just meet at her hotel at Chow Kit area of Kuala Lumpur for a drink and a super short catch up so she could pass me some muachee (a type of sticky glutinous snack) coated with oats. Wow I am salivating thinking of it again because it was so good and I would have regretted not having it.
Arriving at her hotel lobby waiting for her, I realized there was a big crowd of secondary school students dressed in probably their finest, going for maybe their graduation trip? I waited patiently for my friend as she was getting changed after just checking in.
We then went to their cafe to asked for seats for two but to be turned down as their cafe was fully booked. So we had to just Google quickly for the nearest possible venue.
So we walked over to the Chow Kit!
The Chow Kit @ Ormond is about 6-minute walk from her hotel, by us crossing to the opposite of the road via the pedestrian bridge. It was an easy walk as it was linked easily for us without the need to cross the busy roads. My friend said another friend recommended this place as he was admiring the architecture and interior design of it.
We arrived to find that the whole interior design of the hotel looked so vintage and inviting. It has an old-school vibe that made it pleasant for guests to stay and take photos. According to the hotel's website, it used to be an old hospital though.
Food and Drinks
Both my friend and I wanted something light as afternoon tea and coincidentally their lunch menu was already off the lost at that hour. We ordered a Musang King custard with blueberry and strawberry and she went for some passionfruit tea while I ordered a lemon lavender kombucha which is a fermented tea.
I totally love what we had!! I enjoyed my kombucha really a lot and felt so refreshed after that, especially when I was feeling a bit drowsy of an afternoon lack of nap, right? Our Musang King (the best breed of durian) custard was absolutely smooth and amazing to our taste buds that I felt the visit to this place was totally worth it.
Ambience
This hotel has a bar with many kinds of vodka and liquors offered on the menu so I think guests love to come here to Hangout after work and to chill. Aside from us there were other guests having their meeting there at the cafe/restaurant. So the whole vibe of this place is probably a very slow-paced and comfortable, promoting some easiness and quintessential mood for relaxing. It should be a good place to destress and to chit chat, I reckon.
The other part of the hotel had like antiques to look at and the servers spoke with a lot of poise, making us feel valued here. I don't know when I can be back again but I had a good time talking with my friend here though we had limited time.
Indeed one of the #gems found in KL city.
Location: 1012 JALAN SULTAN ISMAIL, CHOW KIT KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA
We spent time taking photos here while talking. My friend is a radiologist doctor who is interviewing to take up a newer course to specialize even more in lung radiology to evaluate Tibi cases in Sarawak. It is a very noble desire because she sees the urgency of the need as for now, all the Tibi cases needed to be sent to Peninsular Malaysia to be assessed and it takes so much longer time. Hence I bless her to be the first in the whole of Sarawak!
She took some photos of me too without me realizing when I was browsing the menu and enjoying my lavender lemon kombucha happily because she knows I may turn awkward if she told me hahaha. Smart her!
