The story of this tender primate begins with its arrival at our center, in the company of some villagers who reported having found it.

And as often happens, when people who cannot care for wild animals, abandon them or give them up for adoption to rescue centers.
La historia de este tierno primate comienza con su llegada a nuestro centro, en compañía de unos pobladores que reportaron haberlo encontrado.
A su llegada era apenas un joven espécimen. Los indicios después de su revisión veterinaria y estudio de comportamiento, nos hizo saber que no habría sido encontrado, sino más bien, habría estado en cautiverio. Y como suele suceder, cuando las personas que no pueden ocuparse de animales silvestres, las abandonan o dan en adopción a los centros de rescate.

Para buena fortuna, de este hermoso mono fraile, su destino fue el de ser dado en adopción y en un acto conjunto con la autoridad regional ambiental en Tarapoto, se generó su acta de entrega (documento obligatorio para recepción de fauna silvestre) a nuestro centro. Paso varios meses en rehabilitación.
Fue liberado en el Área de Conservación Cordillera Escalera, donde se pueden apreciar manadas de esta especie. Su liberación, tuvo un periodo de incertidumbre, pues, el debía ser aceptado por la manada. Felizmente, ese fue el caso. De vez en cuando nos hace visitas fortuitas, pero sobre todo pasa sus días con la manada que le dio la oportunidad de volver a ser libre en su propia comunidad
