They said that celebrating the year’s end with friends is fun, but they never mentioned how unforgettable it would be. Hello everyone! I'm back again with another exciting and memorable blog to share!
We had our Year-End Party last December 20, 2024. Well for some, it is a called Christmas Party, right? But we refer to it as a Year-End Party because some in our class don’t celebrate Christmas, as they are not Catholic. It was called as Year-End Party because we wanted everyone to come, have fun, and just enjoy!
We did room decorations the day before the party so that it won't look plain or boring. We weren't sure until the last moment whether we could finish with the decorations since we were so busy with other things, we had a film viewing at the afternoon but luckily, with help from a few classmates, we finished.
Our section planned to start the event at 8 AM since it was only going to last half a day. However , being a Filipino, and everybody knew we wouldn't get started at such an early time! So we push it instead to 9 AM, since we couldn't start since there are only a few of us being there.
Our theme was dressing up as our idol, hence we made a DIY red carpet to showcase our outfits on. I wore a costume inspired by my K-pop idol bias, Wonwoo of Seventeen. All my outfits were thrifted (hehhehe) and it took me friend and my friend nearly two hours to find those outfits because I am kinda picky about clothes (don't judge me😭I'm sure some of you can relate!)
Anyway, we began to start the event with our grand entrance on the DIY red carpet. While I was waiting for my turn, my friends and I took pictures outside the classroom. I was not alone on the red carpet since you can walk in pairs or groups, so I went with three more friends.

(The iconic boys from our section making their grand entrance, but we couldn't take it seriously. We were laughing so much! HAHAHAHA😭)
Our event officially started after some time. Of course, it began with a prayer and an opening message from our class president, and then the fun began with some games. School supplies as prizes were sponsored by our adviser, and one of our classmate's parents even sponsored a bit of cash for other prizes (thank you🫰🏻).
The first game was "Trip to Jerusalem." I think we’re all familiar with this, aren’t we? It’s a classic game, especially for the Filipinos since it’s played during almost every party and event. Chairs were set up in a circle with one less chair than the number of players. When the music started, players could dance any way they wanted. The MC might give wacky instructions like being a chicken or dancing like a dog. When the music stopped, all the players scrambled to find a chair to sit in. Anyone caught standing was out, and one chair was taken away.
Next up came "Charades." This was played between two teams: girls against boys. Some of us, including myself, chose not to join the girls' team, as it would have been unfair; we had more girls in the class than boys. The first player would act out their word to teammates until the last person had to guess what it was. Because our theme was "dress as your idol," the words we acted out were related to international and local artists like BINI, Taylor Swift, and many more.
Third on the list was "Bring Me" one of the most fun games, made even funnier when the MC called out for super random things, white hair, black socks, and a bunch of others (I totally forgot the rest lol).
We played "Group Yourselves." It was fun, but not for us!(JOKE🫶🏻). Our adviser being a math teacher (she teaches Pre-Calculus/Basic Calculus) made the game more difficult with equations and math problems😭. It was a sight to behold just to see how some of my classmates got betrayed by their friends HAHAHAHA!!
The last game was viral on TikTok as "Tumpakners." The mechanics were simple, two players were supposed to answer the same question with the same answer. Like they have to say the same color if the category is "colors". If they gave different answers, they're out. In our case, we only had one chance.
The games lasted for nearly an hour, which was perfect because at precisely 11 AM, we had lunch scheduled. Our section decided to go for catering so that the cleaning would be less of a burden afterward. Our parents consented to that, so we went ahead with the plan. There were five food choices and all were super yummy. The money we contributed was pretty much worth it because we finished everything! Ma'am even bought ice cream cones for all of us (thank you, Ma'am🫶🏻)
After a short break, we are now prepared to face the most thrilling activity in the Year-End Party-exchange of presents! We had the usual Monito/Monita. But as an added excitement to the event, we used code names where no one was to know who picked whom. To know that there would be gifts wanted by all, one of my classmates designed a Google Doc where we indicated both our code name and the things we wished for (minimum of 3, maximum of 5 items, budget of 150 pesos).
My codename was Bloonki, and my wishlist included: a plumeria flower hairclip, Bluetooth Airpods/earphones, and a tulip necklace. The classmate who picked me turned out to be my seatmate and a good friend! We laughed all the way back into class because instead of figuring out each other's code names, we were whining and throwing a fit. She had a hunch that it was me! 😭😭😭
The person I picked was also a close friend from the same circle. I was overly thinking about whether she would like the gift I got her because none of the things in her wishlist were available at the mall. But thankfully, she was super happy with it!
Looking back now, I realized that this party was not really just about games, foods, and gifts but memories made with those who journeyed along with us. Maybe we will never all be together forever, but these moments will remain with us.
