Wednesday Walk: A Morning walk towards the bank of Indus River in Pakistan

Importance of morning walk

Someone said it right that “a morning walk is a blessing for the whole day”, I have always believed that quote and never leave a chance to go for a walk or visit places where I can take some rest away from our usual world and recharge ourselves by spending more time into the nature. So today I decided to go for a walk and to show the world a glimpse of my beautiful city. My city Sukkur is located on the western bank of the river Indus and it is the third-largest city in the Sindh province in Pakistan.

During my walk, I captured three places that are very popular in this region. So the first one is the Tomb of Three Sisters. There is traditional folklore that these were seven unmarried sisters who were so beautiful that the king of that area desired to marry them so when they heard this news they prayed against that which was accepted and their place was turned upside down and because of this all seven sisters got buried inside that place.

The tomb is situated on the left bank of the river Indus and behind that, there is a beautiful view of the Lansdown bridge which is the first of its kind constructed in the nineteenth century by the British empire. The Lansdown bridge is built with steel and it is without any support of pillars. The bridge not only provides a way for transport but there is also a railway track which passes through over this bridge.

There we can probably find the best view of River Indus which flows through western Tibet to Kashir and all the way to here and then goes into Arabian Sea near Karachi. The length of this river is 3180 km and the local community has immense respect for this river because it provides them livelihood.

Below is the view of Sukkur Barrage which is one of the largest barrages in the world. It has 66 doors from which the river passes to other side and it irrigates all the regions of Sindh province. This Barrage was also constructed by British Empire in the early 20th Century.
