Los cruceros: Una experiencia distinta...
I have always enjoyed traveling, and I try to make the most of each trip to learn and enjoy new landscapes, cultures and experiences. However, there is an experience that I try to repeat and that I personally think is the most viable option to get to know more diversity of beaches, countries and cultures. It is about cruises, and there are different shipping companies that offer a wide variety of tours. For example, in the Caribbean area, they usually offer packages of 3 nights, 4 days or 6 nights, 7 days. During this time, there are usually 1 or 2 days of navigation at sea full of fun, adventure and lots of gastronomy inside the ship.
Siempre me ha gustado viajar, y de cada viaje intento sacar el máximo provecho para aprender y disfrutar de nuevos paisajes, culturas y vivencias. Sin embargo, hay una experiencia que intento repetir y que en lo personal, me parece la opción más viable para conocer más diversidad de playas, países y culturas. Se trata de los cruceros, y es que, existen distintas navieras que ofrecen una gran variedad de recorridos. Por ejemplo, en el área del Caribe, ofrecen paquetes comúnmente de 3 noches, 4 días ó de 6 noches, 7 días. Durante este tiempo, normalmente hay 1 o 2 días de navegación en el mar llenos de diversión, aventura y mucha gastronomía dentro del barco.
In our case, as part of our honeymoon, we took a cruise in 2014, specifically on the Carnival Splendor ship, which departed at that time from Miami, USA. Imagine 14 stories high on a ship, among which are distributed restaurants, entertainment, cabins, living rooms, spa rooms, ballrooms, game rooms, gym, jogging track, golf course, swimming pools, water slides, perfumeries, jewelry stores, among others.
En nuestro caso, como parte de nuestra luna de miel, tomamos un crucero en el año 2014, específicamente en el barco Carnival Splendor, el cual partía en aquella época desde Miami, USA. Imagínense 14 pisos de altura en un barco, entre los cuales se distribuyen restaurantes, diversión, camarotes, salas de estar, salas de spa, salas de baile, salas de juego, gimnasio, pista de trote, pista de golf, piscinas, toboganes acuáticos, perfumerías, joyerías, entre otros.

What I like the most is that there is no time to get bored, in fact, there is almost no time to rest. Obviously it depends on the mentality of each person and their priorities, but in my case, I do my best to try to go to all the restaurants, try most of the dishes they serve and enjoy every space on the ship. Commonly, when you enter a cruise ship, you enter through the Lobby, and this is a space that they decorate very well when building the ship since it will be the passenger's first impression. We were greeted with a welcome cocktail and background music (a pianist) in the lobby. I emphasize that at this point, you don't even think about your luggage, since the logistics staff is in charge of receiving the luggage much earlier and leaving it in the cabin assigned to you.
Lo que más me gusta, es que no hay tiempo para aburrirse, de hecho, casi no hay tiempo ni para descansar. Obviamente depende de la mentalidad de cada quien y de sus prioridades, pero en mi caso, me esfuerzo al máximo por intentar asistir a todos los restaurantes, probar la mayoría de los platos que sirven y disfrutar cada espacio del barco. Comúnmente, al entrar a un crucero, lo haces por el Lobby, y éste es un espacio que decoran muy bien al construir el barco ya que será la primera impresión del pasajero. A nosotros nos recibieron con un cóctel de bienvenida y música de fondo (un pianista) en el lobby. Destaco que en este punto, ni siquiera piensas en tus maletas, ya que el personal de logística se encarga de recibir el equipaje mucho antes y dejarla en el camarote que te asignan.

As for the gastronomy, from the moment you step on the ship, until you get off, there is food available to satisfy all your cravings. There are dishes that are even available 24hrs a day, for example, pizzas (vegetarian, margarita and tropical) and fast food (hamburgers, hot dogs and fries..., yes, all the fries you want to eat). During specific hours, breakfast, lunch and dinner are available. They do them buffet style, and believe me, there are too many choices, e.g. Thai, Japanese, American, Italian, etc. I assure you that you will leave with 2 Kgs more experience, haha. All this food is included in the cost of the cruise, but of course, you serve it to yourself consciously so you don't waste it. Alcoholic beverages are not included in the cost, but believe me, they are not necessary.
En cuanto a la gastronomía, desde que pisas el barco, hasta que te bajas, hay comida disponible para saciar todos tus antojos. Hay platos que incluso están disponibles las 24hrs del día, por ejemplo, las pizzas (vegetarianas, margarita y tropical) y la comida rápida (hamburguesas, perro calientes y papas fritas..., si, todas las papas fritas que quieras comer). Durante horas específicas, están disponibles los desayunos, almuerzos y cenas. Los hacen tipo buffet, y créanme, hay demasiadas opciones, por ejemplo comida tailandesa, japonesa, americana, italiana, etc. Te aseguro que saldrás con 2 Kgs más de experiencia, jaja. Toda esta comida está incluida en el costo del crucero, pero por supuesto, te la sirves conscientemente para no desperdiciarla. Las bebidas alcohólicas no están incluidas en el costo, pero créanme, no hacen falta.
Regarding entertainment, during most of the nights there are plays, whose actors are part of the same crew but with an excellent preparation to sing, act and dance. Likewise, there are rooms with live music, where you can go from one place to another, and change, for example, from salsa to merengue, or from merengue to electronic music, etc. Even for classical music lovers, there are places where musicians play beautiful pieces that you can enjoy in a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. At each site visited by the ship, you have the possibility of buying an additional tourist package with companies endorsed by the shipping line. Also, when you get off at the island, there are people who offer these services and maybe you could save money, the risk is that if you are late, the ship is not obliged to wait for you because you did not hire the tour through their authorized companies, it is at your own risk and I comment that during this trip, we saw about 3 people stay because they did not board on time.
Respecto a la diversión, durante la mayoría de las noches hay obras de teatro, cuyos actores son parte de la misma tripulación pero con una excelente preparación para cantar, actuar y bailar. Asimismo, hay salas con música en vivo, en la que podrás ir de un lugar a otro, y cambiar por ejemplo, de salsa a merengue, o de merengue a electrónica, etc. Incluso, para los amantes de la música clásica, hay sitios en los que se sitúan músicos a tocar bonitas piezas que puedes disfrutar en un ambiente más tranquilo y relajado. En cada sitio que visita el barco, tienes la posibilidad de comprar adicional un paquete turístico con empresas avaladas por la línea naviera. También, al bajarte en la isla, hay personas que te ofrecen estos servicios y tal vez podrías ahorrarte dinero, el riesgo están en que si llegas a retrasarte, el barco no está en la obligación de esperarte ya que no contrataste el tour a través de sus empresas autorizadas, queda bajo tu riesgo y comento que, durante ese viaje, vimos a unas 3 personas quedarse por no haber abordado a tiempo.

Among the places we visited, and I remember the most, are the island of St. Marteen and the Grand Turk Islands. And I remember them thanks to the color and purity of its beaches, as they are paradisiacal and the temperature of its waters are very similar to those of Venezuela, really worth it. At all times we felt good security in these tourist sites, but of course, having common sense not to walk on streets far away and alone (you never know).
Entre los lugares que visitamos, y más recuerdo, son la isla de St. Marteen y las islas Grand Turk. Y las recuerdo gracias al color y pureza de sus playas, ya que son paradisíacas y la temperatura de sus aguas son muy parecidas a las de Venezuela, realmente valen la pena. En todo momento sentimos buena seguridad en estos sitios turísticos, pero por supuesto, teniendo sentido común de no caminar por calles muy lejanas y solas (uno nunca sabe).

I think that, with all that you eat, drink, enjoy and know, the price/value ratio of the cruises is quite low and you can get to know in a few days a great variety of places. Apart from that, if you total what you spend in the days of the cruise, versus staying and eating normally in a city, I assure you that you save a lot of money being those days on the cruise. So, think about it and cheer up if you haven't had the opportunity yet!
Pienso que, con todo lo que comes, bebes, disfrutas y conoces, la relación precio/valor de los cruceros es bastante bajo y puedes llegar a conocer en pocos días una gran variedad de sitios. Aparte de eso, si totalizas lo que gastas en los días de crucero, versus hospedarse y comer normalmente en una ciudad, te aseguro que ahorras mucho dinero estando esos días en el crucero. Así que, piensenlo y anímense si aún no han tenido esa oportunidad!

Cruises are a great way to travel as you get to visit so many places without moving hotels, and don't have to worry about how much you spend on food. I been on a couple with my family and I think when I grow older it might be my preferred way to travel. But until then, I would still prefer to travel by myself so I'm not restricted to locations that are near the port.
