Our visit of the Morteratsch Glacier in Switzerland [ENG - RU]

in Worldmappin3 years ago

Hi, Hive! 😊

I want to share with you the beauty of the Morteratsch Glacier.

Glaciers are melting, and that's no secret. But the rate at which they have begun to disappear over the past 40 years is frightening. In their totality, the glaciers in the Alps have already shrunk by 60 percent. It's sad to realize that in a few decades we may not see them at all anymore. I will not go into details of climate change, but the fact is there. We have to hurry and take the time to enjoy their beauty.

This is the Morteratschgletscher. The largest glacier in the Rhaetian Alps. A curious fact is that the water from melting glacier flows into the Black Sea. The melting of the glacier began as early as 1878. But in the period since 1999, the process has been greatly accelerated. This is the first glacier in Switzerland, where a project was launched to protect it with artificial snow. If the project pays off, it will be used to restore other glaciers.

Near the glacier there is a hiking trail, on which you can easily walk with children. Only 3.5 km from Morteratsch station and you are there! The climb is insignificant and you almost don't feel it while your walk. It is definitely worth it! Already on the trail there is such a breathtakingly beautiful view that you walk the whole time with your mouth open in admiration. The altitude of just over 2,000 meters can still be felt. That's why I felt a little bit dizzy. But maybe it's because of beauty😊

There was a moment at this point that made me sad. From the realization of its disappearance and the fact that perhaps the next generation will not see the Morteratsch as we see it now.

At the end, I would like to add just one thing: I really hope that as many people as possible on the planet will cherish nature. And that will help preserve truly amazing places like the Morteratsch Glacier 🙏

Climate change is a big factor why glaciers are slowly melting.
If only people care much about nature, it will be preserved to the next generations.
