Argentina - Our afternoon at Cerro Catedral in Bariloche, the largest ski resort in South America. 😃❤️

in Worldmappin4 days ago

More than thirteen years had passed since my high school graduation trip and the only time I had seen Cerro Catedral with snow, until now. Although I treasure that trip I made with my schoolmates, I almost didn't remember what this landscape looked like, and luckily, on my holidays with my dad and brother I was able to see it again. This time we chose to make a trip in the autumn without thinking that we would see so much snow at that time of the year and I was even surprised when we arrived at the hill, because it was very snowy, almost as it usually looks in winter. The early snowfall gave us these beautiful landscapes, and some good new family memories 😃.

When my dad suggested we go on another family vacation, I was excited that he would have the opportunity to visit Bariloche. This city in the south of Argentina has everything for a good stay: great landscapes, urban activity and many activities to keep you entertained. One of them is visiting Cerro Catedral, where the largest ski center in South America is located. When we went in May, I expected to see it still without snow, but luckily for us it wasn't like that 😀.

The week before our trip, it had been snowing very hard, something unusual for the first weeks of May. This caused a lot of snow to accumulate in the mountains and also in the lower parts of the city. Most of the landscapes looked snowy like in winter, but without the high prices that you have to pay to travel at that time. By chance, we chose the right time to go and the perfect place to enjoy the snow was undoubtedly Cerro Catedral ❤️.

Bariloche is a city with a well-developed public transportation system, including a service to visit this place. The ticket is more expensive than the others, it costs about $3.5 for a one-hour trip, but it's not much considering the place it takes you to. This service runs every hour and is in high demand even in the low season: Cerro Catedral is a must-see all year round ☺️.

Once at the base of this mountain, you can freely wander around the shopping centre at its feet, called Villa Catedral. There are bars, restaurants, ski clothing rentals, clubs, a luxury hotel and also other small accommodations. There is also the cable car service that takes you to the top of the mountain if you are a pedestrian and the offices of the ski centre to buy tickets if you want to enjoy this sport ☺️.

There have been discussions recently about the price of the ski pass at Cerro Catedral: everyone knows that snow activities are expensive, but this year it was more expensive than ever. If you wanted to ski in the winter, the daily pass cost about $100, not including equipment rental or anything extra. I heard comments that this resort was the most expensive in the world, however, tourists of course visit it anyway 😅.

Since our visit was in May, more than a month before the start of the winter season, everything was in preparation. Even the workers on the hill said that the snowfall was unusual. There was a lot of operational movement here and there, arranging the snow and clearing the paths for visitors. I didn't remember much about these landscapes and it was great to see them again after such a long time. This is exactly what the center looks like in winter ☺️.

Since the season hadn't started yet, the ski resort wasn't open yet, so all the people there that day were just visiting the base of the mountain and the surroundings. I had tried skiing during my senior trip, but I remember that it didn't go well at all. It's not something I want to try again because I know it takes a lot of practice, so for now I just settled for watching how others had fun while I quietly had a snack 😅.

Something that was free to do was to rent a sled and take advantage of the mountainside to slide down like a toboggan. Even for this activity you have to pay during the season because it is a closed track, but since the ski center was closed, we could all go for free. Of course I 'forced' my dad to go down the sled because he couldn't not live that experience in the snow and luckily he liked it so much that he went down it a few times 😂.

Our family trip had a lot to do, more than I expected. When we had organized this trip a few months ago, I didn't think we would see so much snow. This was good for my dad who didn't know it and also for me, who was able to see Bariloche covered in white like it hadn't been in many years. I was more than happy with this trip because it was a lot of fun for everyone and because it fit our budget and gave us even more benefits. We couldn't have asked for a more complete vacation ❤️.

¿Obligaste a tu papá? ¡Muy cruel eres! 😁 Saludos.

It must have been beautiful after thirteen years to relive the excitement of seeing the whole mountain covered in snow; it's great that the snow season has come early and you have experienced it in the company of your dad and your brother

I love Bariloche, especially because you can visit different tourist places just by moving around by public transport, that is a great advantage to reduce costs

It's incredible that we have the largest ski center in South America and the most expensive in the world

What beautiful photographs, the views are really beautiful dear friend @lauramica

Have a great day

I loved Bariloche with snow! It was really beautiful and sharong with my family was the best ❤️

Glad you liked the pictures, thanks for stopping by 💕

Beautiful place! I’m hoping we get some decent snow where I live this year so I can go snowboarding!

It’s cool that you visited it early in your winter but got a bunch of snow. Do you ski or snowboard? I didn’t find that in there but I didn’t get to read every word.

Yes, it was great to see so much snow so early, I wasn't expecting it!

And no, I don't ski or snowboard, I don't think it's something you can learn in one day so I don't even try 😂.

Seguro puedas hacerlo!

I haven't seen anything like this in snow in person, your father and brother are so lucky to experience it!

Yes, it was a great walk :)

Near where I live there is an ice cream shop called Bariloche, and it always reminds me of that beautiful place you show us, no wonder that ice cream shop is called that way. But in another sense, my father was Chilean and when I was a child he used to tell me about the times he went to Bariloche and other beautiful places in Argentina and Chile.

Oooh How interesting, maybe an Argentinian who missed his city hahaha. Very nice Bariloche.

Parents are always having us forcing them to do something and they end up loving it and overdoing it lol.

Indeed family bonding time is one of the best experiences that we can live in our earthly years.

Argentina is beautiful and your camera did justice in capturing all that beauty 😍

You're right, he said he didn't want to and in the end he jumped several times haha. And the landscapes are beautiful ❤️.

😂🤣... Glad he had fun 😄
