I think that on our autumn vacation with my dad and brother we couldn't have been luckier: as it rarely happens, a heavy snowfall fell almost two months before the real winter. The temperatures weren't cold enough for this to happen yet, but those days were the right conditions for this meteorological phenomenon to occur. Being in Bariloche during its snowy season is something that most visitors want to do, but it's usually quite expensive because it's the high season. However, fortunately my dad, my brother and I were able to do it for a very low price, and by chance, the weather was a gift to us 😃.
Pienso que en nuestras vacaciones de otoño con mi papá y mi hermano no podríamos haber tenido más suerte: como casi nunca ocurre, una gran nevada cayó casi dos meses antes del verdadero invierno. Las temperaturas aún no eran tan frías como para que ocurra esto, pero en esos días se dieron las condiciones necesarias para que este fenómeno metereológico ocurra. Estar en Bariloche en su temporada nevada es algo que la mayoría de los visitantes quieren hacer pero que suele ser bastante costoso por ser la temporada alta. Sin embargo, afortunadamente mi papá, mi hermano y yo pudimos hacerlo por un precio muy bajo, y por la casualidad que nos regaló el clima 😃.
We did this trip in early May of this year, almost halfway through autumn. Although Bariloche is a city that never runs out of tourists, during this month the season is somewhat low so prices tend to be low as well. They got us plane tickets for $100 round trip each, leaving from Buenos Aires, a pretty good price for such a destination. I was already traveling in the south of my country at the time, so I only had to take a $6 bus to meet them and start our family vacation 😃.
Este paseo lo hicimos a principios de mayo de este año, a casi mitad del otoño. Si bien Bariloche es una ciudad que nunca se queda sin turistas, en este mes la temporada es algo baja por lo que los precios también suelen serlo. Ellos consiguieron tickets de avión por $100 ida y vuelta cada uno, saliendo desde Buenos Aires, un precio bastante bueno para tal destino. Yo ya estaba viajando en el sur de mi país por ese tiempo, por lo que solo tuve que tomarme un bus de $6 para encontrarme con ellos y empezar nuestras vacaciones familiares 😃.
We also got a beautiful apartment for the three of us in the city center, paying only $30 per night. From its location we had all the public transportation nearby that took us to the different beautiful spots in the city, which was very convenient since we didn't have our own vehicle. I had to put together a very touristy itinerary for us because they didn't know anything about Bariloche and, although I had already visited this city many times, I loved sharing these walks with them 😃.
También conseguimos un departamento hermoso para los tres en en centro de la ciudad y solo pagando $30 por noche. Desde su ubicación teníamos cerca todos los transportes públicos que nos llevaban a los distintos puntos hermosos de la ciudad, lo que nos vino muy bien ya que no teníamos vehiculo propio. Tuve que armar un itinerario muy turistico para nosotros porque ellos no conocían nada de Bariloche y, aunque yo ya había visitado esta ciudad muchas veces, me encantó compartir con ellos estos paseos 😃.
Anyway, most of the times I was in Bariloche were during the "hot" season, when there is usually no snow on the streets or paths. But that surprise snowfall at the beginning of May managed to transform the landscapes and made me see the same places but with a slightly different look. It was the first time my dad had seen snow, so he was also very happy about the snowfall since it was definitely something we were not expecting 😃.
De todas formas, la mayoría de las veces que estuve en Bariloche fue en la época "calurosa", donde no suele haber nada de nieve en las calles ni senderos. Pero esa nevada sorpresiva a principio de mayo logró transformar los paisajes y me hizo conocer los mismos lugares pero con un aspecto algo diferente. Era la primera vez que mi papá conocía la nieve, así que también estaba muy contento por la nevada ya que definitivamente era algo que no nos esperábamos 😃.
One of the places I didn't want them to miss was the Gutierrez Lake area. You can get there after a 15 km trip from the center of Bariloche, just by paying a bus fare of $0.9. This price is really cheap to get to such a beautiful place, so we took a day to go there. I had three plans to do in this place: walk along the coast of the lake, climb to the lake viewpoint and reach the Los Duentes Waterfall 😃.
Uno de los lugares que no quería que ellos se perdieran era la zona del Lago Gutiérrez. Se puede llegar hasta él después de un viaje de 15 km desde el centro de Bariloche, solo pagando una tarifa de bus de $0.9. Este precio es realmente barato como para llegar a un lugar tan hermoso, así que nos tomamos un día para ir hasta ahí. Tenía tres planes para hacer en este lugar: caminar por la costa del lago, subir hasta el mirador del lago y llegar hasta la Cascada Los Duentes 😃.
We were able to do the first one without any problems, but when we got to the trail to the lake viewpoint, it was closed due to the amount of snow. Although I had suitable footwear, they didn't, so we had to continue our itinerary directly to the waterfall. This trail is very short, it's only about 500 meters, but we had already walked about 4 km since we got off the bus, so it was a considerable trek. The walk through the forest was beautiful, everything was covered in snow and looked incredible 😃.
La primera pudimos hacerla sin problemas, pero cuando llegamos al sendero del mirador del lago este se encontraba cerrado debido a la cantidad de nieve. Si bien yo tenía calzado adecuado, ellos no así que tuvimos que continuar nuestro itinerario directamente hasta la cascada. Este sendero es muy corto, son solo unos 500 metros pero ya habiamos caminado unos 4 km desde que bajamos del bus así que fue un trekking considerable. El paseo por el bosque fue hermoso, todo lleno de nieve se veía increíble 😃.
By the time we got to the waterfall, it was also surrounded by quite a bit of snow. It was noticeably cold there, we were even cold that day, but this was not enough to freeze the water. This hike is quite family-friendly due to its low difficulty since the entrance can be reached by private vehicle, so that day there were several families, but we were still able to get some decent photos, of us and of the landscape ❤️.
Para cuando llegamos a la cascada, esta también estaba rodeada de bastante nieve. Se notaba que hizo bastante frío en ese lugar, incluso teníamos frío ese día, pero esto no fue suficiente como para congelar el agua. Esta caminata es bastante familiar debido a su baja dificultad ya que hasta la entrada se puede llegar en vehiculo particular así que ese día habían varias familias, pero igual pudimos obtener unas fotos decentes, nuestras y del paisaje ❤️.
Coincidentally, I had already been to this waterfall with my friend almost in May 2022, but at that time the landscape was completely different, without any snow. I loved seeing this place in its two versions, and I was glad that it happened in the fall and just when we were traveling there. I love the ability that snow has to transform places and make them seem so different, each with its own charm. And to the snow that came early, I say thank you for having given us this day with good memories as a family ❤️.
Casualmente, yo ya había estado en esta cascada con mi amiga casi en mayo de 2022 pero en ese momento el paisaje era completamente diferente, sin nada de nieve. Ver este lugar en sus dos versiones me encantó, y me alegró que se haya dado en el otoño y justo cuando estabamos de viaje por ahí. Amo la capacidad que tiene la nieve de transformar los lugares y que parezcan tan diferentes, cada uno con su encanto propio. Y a la nieve que se adelantó le digo gracias por habernos regalado este día con buenos recuerdos en familia ❤️.

There is something special about family outings, it doesn't matter if you have visited that place many times, doing it as a family gives it a unique touch. Thanks for sharing this experience with us.

Wow, a heavy snowfall fell almost two months before the real winter is great to experience the early winter vibes. Still, I am waiting for the first snowing of the year in the coming weekend. The waterfall is in a good location with everything to explore as a package of lakes, mountains, and forests with the waterfall; just like a dream! Thanks for sharing your great adventure.

But I don't think it's good to go hiking when the mountains are snowy. Aside from it's colder, the trails aren't safe and can be slippery

Que hermoso y diferente que se ve todo con nieve. Ese sendero es hermoso y sencillo y la nieve aporta algo más de magia a esos paisajes maravillosos.
Vos sabes que la gente que nos alquiló en Esquel nos decía que a mediados de septiembre es una muy buena época para visitar estos sitios ya que si bien hay posibilidad de nevadas, su intensidad es mucho menor. Seguramente el año próximo visitemos estos destinos para poder disfrutar de la experiencia de la nieve.
Cuando veo las fotos del lago Gutierrez nevado parece que se tratara de un lugar desconocido.
