When we finally finished everything we had planned in Uyuni, we were ready to continue our journey to who knows where. Honestly, I didn't have much of an idea of the route we would take, so each next destination was a mystery. The good thing about not knowing anything about Bolivia was that any place would be fine for me, so I would let myself be surprised. In the meantime, I just enjoyed the relaxed ride and any stop we made, whether technical or the final stop of the day, was going to be enjoyable in tourist mode 😃.
Cuando al fin terminamos de hacer todo lo que teníamos previsto en Uyuni, estuvimos listos para continuar nuestro viaje hacia no sé donde. Honestamente, yo no tenía mucha idea de la ruta que haríamos, por lo que cada siguiente destino era una incógnita. Lo bueno de no conocer nada de Bolivia era que cualquier lugar iba a estar bien para mí, así que me dejaría sorprender. Mientras tanto solo disfrutaba del paseo relajada y cualquier parada que hiciéramos, sea técnica o la final del día, iba a ser disfrutable estando en modo turista 😃.
While staying at a hostel in Uyuni, we met a girl who also had a somewhat uncertain route planned but headed north and asked if she could join us. There had only been two of us in the car, so of course there was room for someone else. Adding a new member to our trip made things more fun and also helped me practice my English conversation, since she didn't speak any Spanish 😃.
Durante nuestro paso por un hostel de Uyuni, conocimos a una chica que también tenía planeada una ruta algo incierta pero con destino al norte y nos preguntó si podía unirse a nosotros. Solo habíamos estando siendo dos en el autito, así que por supuesto había lugar para alguien más. Agregar a una nueva integrante a nuestro paseo hizo las cosas más divertidas y de paso me sirvió para practicar mi conversación en inglés, ya que ella no hablaba nada de español 😃.
Before traveling with us, she gave us a little warning and that was that she regularly needed to go to the bathroom because she suffered from a kind of incontinence. Unlike me, who does not like going to the bathroom in nature, I developed a great ability to hold it for hours and hours, which forced us to make several stops along the way that the three of us traveled together. Our first stop was just 20 kilometers and a half hour after leaving Uyuni, in a town called Pulacayo. There we got off to find a bathroom for our new friend and of course, we took the opportunity to walk around the town 😃.
Antes de viajar con nosotros, ella nos hizo una pequeña advertencia y era que regularmente necesitaba ir al baño porque sufría de una especie de incontinencia. A diferencia de mí, que como no me gusta ir al baño en la naturaleza desarrollé una gran capacidad de aguantar durante horas y horas, esto nos obligó a hacer varias paradas en el trayecto que viajamos los tres juntos. Nuestra primera parada fue tan solo 20 kilómetros y media hora después de haber salido de Uyuni, en un pueblo llamado Pulacayo. Ahí bajamos para buscar un baño para nuestra nueva amiga y por supuesto, aprovechamos para recorrer el pueblo 😃.
The main activity here is mining, very similar to the town we had seen in Santa Barbara a few days ago when we climbed up to 5,000 meters above sea level. This town was a little lower, at 4,200 meters above sea level, but being located in the mountains made it very unique. It didn't have many streets or many houses, but at least it had a train museum similar to the one in Uyuni but smaller. Although we wandered around a bit, a local told us not to stray too far from the center because there were many dogs in the streets in the town that could attack us. That left us very calm, luckily 😂.
La principal actividad de este lugar es la minería, muy similar al pueblo que habíamos visto en Santa Bárbara unos días atrás cuando subimos hasta los 5000 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Este pueblo estaba un poco más abajo, a 4200 msnm, pero igual estar emplazado en las montañas lo hacía muy particular. No tenía muchas calles ni muchas casas, pero al menos tenía un museo de trenes similar al de Uyuni pero más pequeño. Si bien deambulamos un poco, un lugareño nos dijo que tampoco nos alejaramos tanto del centro porque en el pueblo habían muchos perros en la calle que podrían atacarnos. Eso nos dejó muy tranquilos por suerte 😂.
After finding a bathroom in a church for our friend, we continued walking a bit without going too far from where we had left the car and we found a huge soccer field. This place was almost like a stadium and with green synthetic grass, very contrasting with all the arid and orange of the rest of the town. I was surprised that this place was so huge because it was like it didn't match the place itself, unless in Pulacayo everyone is such a soccer fanatic as to justify this huge place. Anyway, at 4200 meters above sea level and with the heat, it was a bit difficult for us to breathe while we were walking, so to play a soccer game you must be in very good physical condition in this place 😂.
Después de haber encontrado un baño en una iglesia para nuestra amiga, seguimos caminando un poco sin alejarnos tanto de donde habíamos dejado el autito y nos encontramos con una enorme cancha de futbol. Este lugar era casi como un estadio y con un pasto sintético verde, muy contrastante con todo lo árido y anaranjado del resto del pueblo. Me sorprendió que este lugar sea tan gigante porque era como que no coincidía con el lugar en sí, a menos que en Pulacayo todos sean tan fanáticos del futbol como para justificar este gran lugar. Como sea, a 4200 msnm y con el calor, a nosotros nos costaba un poco respirar mientras caminabamos, así que para jugar un partido de futbol se debe tener una condición física muy buena en este lugar 😂.
The good thing about this trip that was taking shape as we went along was that unexpected things like this stop came up, but they allowed us all to see new places. Making a stop in Pulacayo was interesting and it was thanks to the need of our new friend, because if it had been up to Guest M and me, we would have passed it by. It was also good not to have been hurt by any wild dogs, although just in case we continued visiting the town but looking carefully around us 😅.
Lo bueno de este viaje que se iba armando a medida que avanzabamos en el camino, era que surgían cosas imprevistas como esta parada, pero que nos permitían conocer nuevos lugares a todos. Hacer una parada en Pulacayo fue interesante y fue gracias a la necesidad de nuestra nueva amiga, porque si hubiese sido por Huésped M y yo, lo hubiésemos pasado de largo. También fue bueno no haber sido lastimados por ningún perro salvaje, aunque por las dudas seguimos visitando el pueblo pero mirando cuidadosamente a nuestro alrededor 😅.
