After the long and bumpy drive through Phuket, I arrived at my destination after about 45 minutes of driving from the airport. My first destination on the trip to Thailand was the The Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa, Phuket, which should serve as a first port of call after arriving in Thailand regarding the whole Covid stories. I stayed in the hotel for 3 nights to arrive first. At the check-in at the hotel everything worked fine so far. The hotel wanted to see all the information that I had already given in the ThailandPass and wanted me to install and set up the Thai version of the Corona Warning App. This was a bit annoying but also understandable. After about 20 minutes check-in I was then driven up the hill to my room with a golf caddy.
Nach der langen und holprigen Fahrt durch Phuket, bin ich nach ca. 45 Minuten Fahrzeit vom Flughafen an meinem Ziel angekommen. Mein erstes Ziel auf der Reise nach Thailand war das The Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa, Phuket, welches als erster Anlaufpunkt nach der Ankunft in Thailand bezüglich der ganzen Covid Geschichten dienen sollte. In dem Hotel bin ich 3 Nächte geblieben um erstmal anzukommen. Beim Check-In im Hotel hat soweit alles wunderbar geklappt. Das Hotel wollte nochmal sämtliche Informationen sehen, die ich bereits beim ThailandPass angegeben habe und wollten unbedingt, das ich mir die thailändische Version der Corona-Warn App installiere und einrichte. Das war zwar etwas nervig aber auch nachzuvollziehen. Nach ca. 20 Minuten Check-In bin ich dann auf den Hügel in mein Zimmer mit einem Golf-Caddy gefahren worden.
Arrived in the room I first wondered nicely. The room was huge! 2 large beds, the air conditioning worked very well, flat screen and a very large bathroom. After I put my things, I first opened the terrace door and could directly enjoy the beautiful view. (See first picture in the post). On the terrace was also a private pool with it, which was for exclusive use. This came in handy, because I had to squat anyway still a few hours in the room until the PCR test result from the airport had arrived at the hotel. With the beautiful warm weather and this view of the sea, one could already be well relaxed in the water.
After about 20 minutes in the water I got hungry and ordered breakfast in my room... Because I was not allowed to leave my room. After about 20 minutes the breakfast was delivered - besides scrambled eggs and coffee also some fine fruits. Wonderful, so you could stand it. After the meal I lay down on the bed and opened the laptop... Then I dozed off and slept for about 2 hours... Understandable after all these strains that I have experienced so far.
Im Zimmer angekommen hab ich erstmal schön gestaunt. Das Zimmer war riesig! 2 große Betten, die Klima-Anlage hat sehr gut funktioniert, Flat-Screen und ein sehr großes Badezimmer. Nach dem ich meine Sachen abgelegt habe, hab ich erstmal die Terrassen-Tür aufgemacht und konnte direkt die schöne Aussicht genießen. (Siehe erstes Bild im Post). Auf der Terrasse war auch ein eigener Pool mit dabei, der zur alleinigen Nutzung war. Das kam mir ganz gelegen, da ich sowieso noch einige Stunden auf dem Zimmer hocken musste, bis das PCR-Test Ergebnis vom Flughafen beim Hotel eingetroffen war. Bei dem schönen warmen Wetter und diesem Ausblick auf das Meer, konnte man sich schon gut relaxt im Wasser aufhalten.
Nach rund 20 Minuten im Wasser hab ich auch Hunger bekommen und hab mir erstmal Frühstück auf's Zimmer bestellt... Denn ich durfte mein Zimmer ja nicht verlassen. Nach ca. 20 Minuten wurde dann auch fein das Frühstück geliefert - neben Rührei und Kaffee auch einiges feines an Früchten. Wunderbar, so konnte man es aushalten. Nach dem essen hab ich mich etwas aufs Bett gelegt und den Laptop aufgeklappt... Dann bin ich auch schon eingenickt und hab glaube so ca. 2 Stunden geschlafen... Verständlich nach diesen ganzen Strapazen, die ich bisher erlebt habe.
Then again, I was awakened by a phone call to the room, where the hotel lobby confirmed to me that I am Corona Negative tested and may move freely from now on. Wonderful!!! In the evening I sat down in the hotel restaurant and had a few beers :) A little something I then also allowed myself to eat and then I'm back in the room and had to sleep properly :) In any case, a very fine first impression for the first day.
Dann wiederrum wurde ich durch einen Telefon-Anruf auf dem Zimmer geweckt, wo mir die Hotel-Lobby bestätigt hat, das ich Corona Negativ getestet bin und mich ab sofort frei bewegen darf. Wunderbar!!! Am Abend hab ich mich dann in das Hotel Restaurant gesetzt und mir erstmal ein paar Bier gegönnt :) Eine Kleinigkeit hab ich mir dann auch noch zu Essen gegönnt und bin dann wieder auf's Zimmer und musste erstmal ordentlich schlafen :) Auf jeden Fall schon mal ein sehr feiner erster Eindruck für den ersten Tag.
The next morning, after a very good sleep, it went first directly down to breakfast. Good coffee, water, orange juice, scrambled eggs, croissants and lots of fruit was for breakfast. I noticed then that I'm actually not so hungry in the warm weather. Was probably due to the change with the temperature and the high humidity.
With this beautiful view I've certainly lingered a whole hour at breakfast and also first brought my coffee household in the body to the normal level ;)
On the same day as well as the following day I have actually hardly experienced anything great. The hotel was barely visited and I felt like one of the first guests. The hardworking hotel employees have also brought the resort in various places up to scratch and made some repairs. Due to my early commitment with the Thailand passport, I was probably one of the first guests in the resort, after a long time. Overall, you can say that the first stay in Phuket in this resort was already good and has helped wonderfully, first after a long time back in Asia to get used to the climate.
The hotel staff was super friendly and helpful. Everyone wore masks everywhere and wonderfully adhered to the hygiene regulations. Just as the Thai government would have it. I felt very well taken care of and safe.
Am nächsten morgen, nach einem sehr guten Schlaf, ging es erstmal direkt runter zum Frühstück. Ordentlicher Kaffee, Wasser, Orangensaft, Rührei, Croissants und jede Menge Früchte gabs zum Frühstück. Ich hab dann schon gemerkt, das ich bei dem warmen Wetter eigentlich gar nicht so einen großen Hunger habe. Lag wahrscheinlich an der Umstellung mit der Temperatur und der hohen Luftfeuchtigkeit.
Bei diesem schönen Ausblick hab ich bestimmt eine ganze Stunde beim Frühstück verweilt und auch erstmal meinen Kaffee-Haushalt im Körper auf den Normalstand gebracht ;)
Am selben Tag sowie an dem darauffolgenden Tag hab ich eigentlich kaum etwas großartiges Erlebt. Das Hotel war kaum besucht und ich fühlte mich, wie einer der ersten Gäste. Die fleißigen Hotel Mitarbeiter haben auch an den verschiedenen Stellen das Resort auf Vordermann gebracht und einiges an Reparaturen durchgeführt. Durch meine frühe Zusage mit dem Thailand-Pass war ich wohl mit unter einer der ersten Gäste in dem Resort, nach langer Zeit. Im großen und ganzen kann man aber sagen, das der erste Aufenthalt in Phuket in diesem Resort schon gut war und hat wunderbar dabei geholfen, erstmal nach langer Zeit wieder in Asien sich an das Klima zu gewöhnen.
Die Hotel Mitarbeiter waren super freundlich und zuvorkommend. Alle haben überall Masken getragen und haben sich wunderbar an die Hygiene-Vorschriften gehalten. So, wie es die thailändische Regierung auch haben möchte. Ich hab mich sehr gut aufgehoben gefühlt und fühlte mich sicher.
After the first 3 days on Phuket it was time to say goodbye and change the island. From the hotel I got a cab driver who brought me to the nearby pier. On the way you could see really strange vehicles. From the hotel to the pier it was about 10 minutes by cab, so not a big trip. The cab driver was a cool dude and was very happy that tourists are coming to the island again.
Nach den ersten 3 Tagen auf Phuket hieß es nun Abschied nehmen und die Insel wechseln. Vom Hotel hab ich einen Taxi-Fahrer gestellt bekommen, der mich zum nahegelegenen Pier gebracht hat. Unterwegs konnte man echt schon seltsame Fahrzeuge sehen. Vom Hotel zum Pier waren es rund 10 Minuten mit dem Taxi, also keine große Reise. Der Taxi-Fahrer war ein cooler Dude und hat sich riesig gefreut, das wieder Touristen auf die Insel kommen.
Let's go to the island Ko Yao Yai
I made the crossing to Ko Yao Yai Island on a speed boat. The ticket for the crossing cost 300 baht, which is the equivalent of about 8.89 US dollars. My luggage was finely stowed on the motor boat. The boat driver assigned me a place in the front of the boat. In the harbor water, unfortunately, you could see really much pollution. The Thais take it here probably not particularly with the cleanliness in the water. Who has seen my other blog posts from my trip to Greece, knows that I have to hold such things of course with the camera ... In the harbor were also half-submerged boats. Since I will soon publish a few photos, which I took with my big camera. After approx. 10 minutes it went off then already. At the exit from the harbor everything was still cool and quiet ;) But when we were then out on the open sea and the waves were more violent it happened...
Auf geht's zur Insel Ko Yao Yai
Die Überfahrt zur Insel Ko Yao Yai hab ich mit einem Speed-Boot gemacht. Das Ticket für die Überfahrt hat 300 Baht gekostet, was umgerechnet ca. 8,89 US Dollar sind. Mein Gepäck wurde fein auf dem Motorboot verstaut. Der Bootsführer hat mir einen Platz vorne auf dem Boot zugewiesen. Im Hafenwasser konnte man leider richtig viel Verschmutzung sehen. Die Thailänder nehmen es hier wohl nicht besonders mit der Sauberkeit im Wasser. Wer meine anderen Blog-Beiträge von meiner Reise nach Griechenland gesehen hat, weiß, das ich sowas natürlich mit der Kamera festhalten muss... Im Hafen lagen auch halb untergegangene Boote. Da werde ich demnächst noch ein paar Fotos veröffentlichen, welche ich mit meiner großen Kamera gemacht habe. Nach ca. 10 Minuten ging es dann auch schon los. Bei der Ausfahrt aus dem Hafen war noch alles cool und ruhig ;) Aber als wir dann raus auf offene See waren und die Wellen heftiger wurden ist es passiert...
Attention! Never sit with electronics in the very front of the speed boat!
On the way to Ko Yao Yai, our speed boat hit several big waves and I had my camera equipment and laptop held in my backpack in front of me in my hand. A huge wave then also came directly into the boat and has made me completely wet from top to bottom. Of course, I myself am not water-shy, but my electronics, which were in my backpack, did not like the salt water very much. I then had to have this repaired at the next hotel on Ko Yao Yai - more on this in the next blog post.
After the wave caught me, the boatman stopped the heavily swaying boat and moved me to the inside of the boat. There I had to sit on the floor. The trip lasted another 40 minutes and I sit on the floor with my backpack in front of my stomach and just hoped that my electronics is still intact...
Arrived on the island of Ko Yao Yai I took a cab, which was already waiting at the pier. For about 500 Baht the cab took me to my next destination. After about half an hour drive I arrived at Koh Yao Yai Village - SHA Plus.
Achtung! Niemals mit Elektronik ganz vorne im Speed-Boot sitzen!
Auf dem Weg nach Ko Yao Yai hat unser Speed-Boot mehrere große Wellen erwischt und ich hatte mein Kamera-Equipment sowie Laptop in meinem Rucksack vor mir in der Hand festgehalten. Eine riesen Welle kam dann auch direkt in das Boot hinein und hat mich komplett von oben bis unten nass gemacht. Natürlich bin ich selbst nicht Wasserscheu, aber meine Elektronik, die sich in meinem Rucksack befand, fand das Salzwasser nicht besonders gut. Dieses musste ich dann im nächsten Hotel auf Ko Yao Yai reparieren lassen - dazu mehr im nächsten Blog-Beitrag.
Nachdem mich die Welle erfasst hat, hat der Bootsführer das stark schwankende Boot angehalten und mich in das innere des Boots verfrachtet. Dort musste ich dann notgedrungenerweise auf dem Boden sitzen. Die Fahrt hat dann weitere 40 Minuten gedauert und ich sitze auf dem Boden mit meinem Rucksack vor dem Bauch und habe nurnoch gehofft, das meine Elektronik noch heile ist...
Auf der Insel Ko Yao Yai angekommen hab ich mir dann ein Taxi genommen, was am Pier schon gewartet hat. Für ca. 500 Baht hat mich das Taxi dann zu meiner nächsten Destination gebracht. Nach ca. einer halben Stunde Autofahrt bin ich dann im Koh Yao Yai Village - SHA Plus angekommen.
Those were my first days on the island of Phuket and the crossing Ko Yao Yai. Already some exciting experiences I had until then. In my next report you will read about my arrival at the hotel Koh Yao Yai Village, the repair of my laptop and the general experience in this resort.
