Wrong Effects Of Comparing A Child With Another Child.

in Motherhood2 years ago

Emeka's mother: Emeka you are 8 years old and you can not read a simple sentence. When I was your age I can read and write very well. I used to take the first position in my class. Look at Vivian (their neighbour) she is in nursery two and can read very well. Emeka you are in primary 2, you suppose to be in primary 3 self but because of your coconut head, you repeated class. yet you can not read. I am so disappointed in you mtchwww. (she sighs)

Are you like Emeka's mother? Have you compared your child with another child perhaps thinking you are trying to help him?

Please let's stop it. Comparing a child with another can make the child develop jealousy and hatred for the other child.

It can lower your child's self-esteem and he/she may think that everyone is better than he or is.

Parents/teachers, instead of criticizing a child, try to observe your child's individual growth and progress and seek help if possible. If your child cannot read, you can get a phonics teacher to help him to start reading.

Remember every child develops at a different pace. It doesn't mean they are not progressing at all.

Be a friend to your child/children so that when they have problems, they can easily come to you instead of going outside.

I hope this helps someone out there.
