Jesus, Lost has taken so many twists and turns over the last 6 seasons, and I thought I'd talk a bit about some of them and discuss where we're at right now.
If anyone hasn't watched Lost, and want to eventually check it out, maybe give this a miss because I'm going to talk about spoilers.
From The Island and Back Home
In the last season we watched, 6 members of the group ended up getting back home and spent 3 years there. Some were in a state of depression due to wanting to go back to the island, while others embraced their new life.
Hurley had the maddest story of all, as he some how became clairvoyant and was able to see and speak with the dead which led to Charlie re-appearing for a few episodes, as well as a few other characters they lost along the way.
Simultaneously, the rest of the members that were left back on the island ended up spending 3 years trapped back in the 70s, during the early days of the Dharma initiative, who are the people who basically settled the island and used it to test all kinds of experiments.
This show is great the way it blends surreal sci-fi concepts, with basically, and island survival tv show. The character development is brilliant, each person feels unique and well written, and rather than being bogged down in the details of out there concepts, like time-travel, teleportation, and science experiments gone wrong, it very much stays grounded its characters, and a heavy dose of witty banter. Also, comedic timing is very good and the writers are very tongue-in-cheek as far as the writing of jokes goes.
Also, there are a lot of Star Wars references throughout, which is funny considering that only a few years later J.J Abrams wrote and directed his own installments in that franchise.
How's Seasons 6 Going?
Well, we're still not lost. But, there are a few things that are a little bit confusing, not because the concept is hard to grasp, but because the writing seems lacking, as far as explaining some things.
Basically, there has been a new element added to the already fairly complex story as a whole. The new element is an alternate reality, which takes place outside of the island. Essentially, it revolves around all of the characters back home and what they've been up to.
They're all still connected and know each other, but everyone is very different. Sawyer - for example - is a cop???
This alternate reality takes place exactly where they return back home from flight 815 and it's as if the island as a whole never existed, and everyone who was ever involved with it is just living normal lives.
But, Sawyer was a conman, he went to Australia and got revenge for his parents, but now he's a cop, having still killed the person who killed his parents, yet came back to his new life as a cop.
It's kind of confusing, because him being a cop has never shown up in his backstory, so we're left wondering is this an alternate reality where they just never ended up on the island, or was there a divergence much earlier.
It's still a good show though, and we're both hoping that some of this is explained within the next 10 episodes, before the show ends.
A conman goes to kill those who killed his parents and then becomes a cop?
That sounds like something I would watch. Now that I have spoilers, I’m going to wait a big and then put it on my list.
I may get around to watching it some day, so I'll skip this for now. I remember when it started and people got excited about it, but I know there was some disappointment about the ending. That happens with a few shows, but you just have to enjoy the ride when it's good.
Sending you an Ecency curation vote!
I heard about this but not too interested in the series. Although this is exactly the kind of stuff I watched hehe.
