Opened in 1926, Hillview Manor was originally a refuge for the mentally ill and those marginalized by society. Over its lifespan, an estimated 10,000 souls have passed away within its walls, many dealt with inhumanely by its management. The notorious Snider family, the original administrators, were accused of grotesque mismanagement, allowing conditions to deteriorate so severely that when residents died, they were unceremoniously buried in mass, unmarked graves.
