Subscription Plan
While I have never paid for using WhatsApp, it is no doubt that in some countries, users pay a yearly subscription of $0.99 after a year free trial and currently over 700 million people have paid this and it was used to run the activity of the company. When WhatsApp started, even the founders knew that the subscription plan was not a lasting idea but they were getting funds from investors as well and then, Facebook came and bought it changing the Financial Revenue Model of WhatsApp
New Revenue Model
WhatsApp now has a model similar to Facebook and what it did was first creating WhatsApp Business which allows the business and customers to interact with one nother while tracking the buisness insights and monitoring customer interest.
WhatsApp Pay is another Whatsapp that allows users to pay for goods and services as well as allow business to pay for goods and services. In some countries like Brazil, businesses are charged for surcharge using it.
A lot of investigations have been going into WhatsApp selling the Data to Facebook for advertisers but Facebook has denied this severally.
Conclusion
I still wonder how WhatsApp makes money from if they don't give their data to Facebook who allows advertisers to target users.
