Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to talk about reflecting back on my time in crypto with a new friend!
Crypto Time Flies
Time flies when you're having fun, right?
The other day I was talking with someone who I've grown to like as a person and may consider them a tangential friend. I'm a few years older than him, which is also a little odd because I am now at that stage in life where I am older than people I talk to sometimes. For the most part, I've always been the younger one as I prefer older company as they have so much to teach me and I learn a whole lot from them.
I would like to think that I can take that experience and start to pay it forward with people who are younger, though this dude isn't much younger than me.
We were talking about a whole lot of things but I had my Decentralize shirt on and he made a comment about it and how he's been into Bitcoin. I guess we are also at that stage in life where Bitcoin is a more popular topic as it is nearing "mainstream" adoption and acceptance. It's not a bad place to be, really.
One of the things that we were talking about that felt weird in a way is that I was telling him I got into crypto a few years ago.. when in reality it's 7 years ago! Damn, it's been 7 years already? That's some crazy shit, seriously!
I was thinking back on the various stages that I've been through and seen. I got really lucky at some of those stages and made some solid investments that I am still holding onto to this day. I don't know what to do with some of those investments but we were chatting about crypto overall. I was talking about the ICO craze, the DeFi craze and now the meme coin craze. Every few years it's something different but it's a bit refreshing in that there are different trends.
I was surprised to think back at having experienced all of those things but I remember them as if they were a few months ago. Time is flying that's for sure! The crypto space, or digital assets as many are now calling them, has really come a long way.
I know one or two people who got into Bitcoin at the BEGINNING stages and one of them is living quite lavish in a foreign country right now. I don't mind his success, as he's a bit of a scumbag anyway so I'm not really bothered by losing touch with him and the potential Bitcoin connection I could have made. There is a lot to be said about the company you keep, even if that company may give you something that's valuable it's like taking the proverbial poison apple from Eve in the Garden.
I was telling my friend about the different things I've learned and was cautiously telling him a tiny bit about Hive. I am slow to approach the Hive concept because it's a different paradigm for sure and I think it can feel like talking to people back in 2013 about Bitcoin. Some people are receptive to it but a lot of people think it's a load of horse shit. To think of decentralized money the way we have it here on Hive is a big step for some people that I want to make sure I tread carefully on!
I was telling him about the Presearch paradigm shift as well, with Keyword staking being a significant game changer in terms of advertising. Being able to know how much someone is spending to have a specific ad is really a big change in how those types of things go!
What about you, when you think back on your time in crypto are you surprised that it's been as long as it has been for you? Let me know in the comments!

Funny enough, I used presearch from 2020 and it was fun. The token pumped in 2021 and it was nice to sell and make profit by just searching the internet.
Pretty much every friend I made in crypto in 4 to 5 years have all disappeared, I think crypto money makes people temporary rather than permanent.
It's great to see you've got some friends you've known from way back
Yeah the peeps I chat with on here are pretty much the mainstays of the crypto friends I've got. In the physical world I've got a small number of friends for various reasons but I'm trying to expand that slowly but surely. I'm wondering where all these things fit into the conversations.
For me, it seems like yesterday although I've been into crypto for a few years now! Time definitely moves differently in this space and I seldom have the opportunity to talk about crypto with the people I frequently come in contact with in the physical world. But looking back, what really amazes me is the wealth of knowledge I've gathered yet it still seems I know very little about this space, especially given that how fast it's evolving.
Yeah the knowledge we have gained is immense yet at the same time it barely scratches the surface of the digital asset realm! Really wild stuff that's for sure but I know that we are on the cutting edge compared to people who just sit at home watching Netflix or something dumb lol.
Lol definitely! At least, we're more productive in that aspect, and this could be beneficial for us in the near future.
Hive is definitely a tricky subject. You have to really be dedicated to it otherwise it just kind of falls flat. I have a friend who is invested, but he doesn't post. He basically just threw some cash at me and said here invest in something. I created an account for him and I basically have it delegating away the HP and earning HE tokens. He's happy, I'm happy to help him. It works, but it would be cool if he was actually posting. Most people I talk to are definitely younger than me these days, but for some reason I always feel like they are older and more mature than me!
Yeah that's good dude. I have one friend who made it on here and has an account, played Splinterlands for a while but then fell off. I don't talk to him anymore either for various reasons so maybe it's a good thing lol.
I would like to try and get another couple people up to speed on it though!
I agree, I think it would be cool to have a nice little tribe of people on here.
Time is passing very fast and we have missed many opportunities so we should use the time right from today then we will be successful soon.
Ya we have missed some opportunities for sure but I think the important thing is that we haven't missed a place like hive! It's ahead of it's time that's for sure!
Good afternoon and greetings to all of us. Beautiful and extraordinary image display that my friend shows.
Thanks I appreciate it!
You're welcome. Have a nice day.
Having older companions or friend sometimes have a advantage to life. Like you said, you are bound to be learning wisdom from older friends and colleagues
I first knew about bitcoin in 2017, but with the lack of access to purchase, I only made my first purchase in 2019. So I have been through the previous 2020/2021 cycle so I suppose it's my second cycle now. Hehe! Phenomenal ride!
