The Northern Alberta Run In Winter

in LeoFinance2 days ago

My job takes me to some pretty amazing places....And one of my favorite drives on my route is most definitely Northern Alberta.

A few times a year, I get to drive up to Whitecourt, Peace River and then Grande Prairie. And while I've done this drive quite a few times over the past few years, I've never done it in winter.

So on Saturday night, I packed my bags and got on the road! I brought my mom along for the drive as well, as she's never been to Northern Alberta. So this was a great opportunity to spend some time together as well as experience the winter wonderland.

Fun fact....When I did the drive around Western Canada a few weeks ago....It was literally - 30 C every single day. This was the complete opposite. We were well above freezing on this trip and the sun was shining for the majority of the trip.

Hope you enjoy the pictures!

This was Sunday morning as we left Whitecourt Alberta on route to Valleyview and then onto Peace River. Big rolling hills and plenty of trees were along the path!

Every now and again, you'd come to smaller valleys on the road. This was preparing us for what was to come once we got to the Peace River valley system!

Early afternoon, pulling into Peace River from the south. It's quite a journey down the valley side into town, and I'm not sure these pictures will capture how magnificent the views are.

The town of Peace River is at the bottom of the valley and is kind of built into the river and the hillside. It's a small place but such an awesome scene and setting for a town.

The next day we headed west to Grande Prairie along side the valley. This was the dip back into the river and while I've seen it in summer and early fall, I had never seen the valley in winter. Just amazing stuff.

You are driving downhill for about 5 kilometers until you reach the Dunvegan Provincial Park. The bridge across the river is sturdy but not the widest thing you'll find lol

As you can see....Two lanes, pretty close together lol

How did my mom do?

Pretty good until we left Grande Prairie and then she basically slept from there back to Whitecourt. She had a good nap lol

Our last stop before getting back to Edmonton was.....The Flying J! A trucker's paradise. Clean restrooms, showers and....

The absolute best coffee on the highway!!!!

I will be back on the road in April.....Stay tuned for more exciting adventures of Jongo on the roads!!!

That is indeed the best coffee on the highway!

Sooooooo good!

The view is amazing and it's weird to see that the snow is still around. It does look like things are warming up as I see some areas with less snow.

The flying J looks like a fuel station
Right?

oh my! I need a road trip like this.

The coffee looks very tasty and good

Looks like a long drive. Good thing you have company.

About 14 hours total driving. Took our time.

It is a good thing that there is a good coffee along the highway

A good coffee to continue the journey. I like the very colorful shield.

The view on the road is pretty nice

That was a nice long road trip you have

The road seems frosty and you should be careful everytime.

Cant drive in Canadian winters without being careful ;)
