VR users might get envious, Unreal Engien 5.5 released with amazing graphics improvements like MegaLights, MetaHumans and a new Sky model.
One of the main problems with VR, besides wearing a heavy and uncomfortable VR headset, is that the graphics quality doesn't come close at all to the experience of real PC-based games. Unreal Engine is simply pulling further and further ahead of Meta's VR platform.
PC games are becoming more and more photorealistic, while VR games feel more like simple mobile games, which is not surprising as standalone VR is based on a mobile SOC from Snapdragon. The graphics are calculated directly inside the VR headset, but this is now becoming more and more a stumbling block.
The solution would be to connect the VR headset to a powerful gaming PC via a wireless connection.
Unfortunately, apart from a few exceptions such as Half Life Alyx, even the PCVR games don't come close to the quality of Tripple-A Games. It's also a bit of a chicken-and-egg problem. VR games will only get better when more people own a VR headset and gamers will only get into VR when there is enough content.
What do you think of the new tech demo of Unreal Engine 5.5? VR users can only dream of graphics like this at the moment. On the other hand, graphics aren't everything. Gameplay is more important.

wow the graphics is amazing. it looks so real.
That's cool. Ive seen some people in asian countries use this already.
I think the graphics are amazing and VR still has a way to go. I agree that gameplay is more important though.

VR games never really started, only a few but never got adopted in mass...VR devices are not that cheap either, or people dont feel the immersive feeling

It is a technology that has not yet taken off and I think it will be replaced by another.
I agree. gameplay is very important but if that kind of graphics will be adopted in VR then it would be amazing. VR would be very popular.
Exactly, I think VR needs the performance of a high-end Unreal Engine 5-compatible gaming PC not the performance of a smartphone to amaze new users.
I hope VR get more popular, i want AAA games there
I can't see a world where I start preferring VR Gaming to PC Gaming.
Although I must say that in my opinion Graphics is the least important aspect of a game. In fact for myself Graphics is so not important in games, that it actually is bad for games. I just can't have fun with these hyper realistic looking games, they draw too much away from actual gameplay elements.
One of my favorite games that I still play is Old School Runescape, and I mean . . . that game hasn't had a graphical update in like 20 years.
Agree, gameplay is more important, but I think for VR better graphics could indeed be a selling point, because graphics plays a bigger role in VR, VR is all about the new 3D experience. Better graphics could increase the initial wow factor and attract new gamers to VR.

PC games are getting better, but it's a shame that VR games are like mobile games.
