Will shareholders regret Microsoft not buying Bitcoin in 2024?

in LeoFinance3 days ago (edited)

Michael Saylor (MicroStrategy) 3-minute Bitcoin presentation for the Microsoft Annual Meeting 2024

Yesterday, the long-awaited general meeting of Microsoft shareholders took place, who voted on the proposal as to whether Microsoft should invest in Bitcoin.

The Board of Directors had recommended voting against the proposal in advance and, as expected, the vote was negative.

Unfortunately, we do not know the specific outcome of the vote. This was not published yet.

Incidentally, the board has rejected all shareholder proposals, not just the Bitcoin proposal. But also a proposal on AI safety (AI misinformation and disinformation) and a proposal to create a report on “human rights hotspots”.

As you can see, things get pretty political at such annual meetings.

I think the fact that a Bitcoin investment was on the agenda is already a big step forward.

In a few years' time, the CFO will probably no longer even ask whether a small portion of the assets should be invested in Bitcoin, but simply do it.

What do you think of the vote? Will shareholders regret the decision? Will Bitcoin overtake Microsoft's market cap in the future? Bitcoin would at the moment have to rise to around 170K for that to happen.

maybe they just want to wait for the bitcoin to go down again before buying.

I think they will regret that decision some time in the future 😅

But we will have to wait and see

I heard they voted against BTC because of "...high volatility and associated risks." I think the reasonable thing to do in that case would be to invest just a little and see how it would perform. I'm certain they will regret this particular decision. If BTC reaches a MC of over 100 trillion, Microsoft BOD and shareholders will cry their eyes out. Thanks for writing.

Oh yes, they will :)

they will surely regret it when bitcoin reach 200k.

I think too that if Bitcoin gets even mentioned at these huge corporations, it's a win for us.

Everybody buys bitcoin at the price they deserve.

Wow
Anyone who misses BTC investment has missed a huge thing

Microsoft is not investing in Bitcoin, very sad

Microsoft is now a large corporation that moves slowly, missing opportunities, so it cannot compete with new players and simply tries to buy them out.

They will regret it
Nothing can stop the growth of BTC

I don't own any Microsoft shares but I don't think companies should invest in these assets. If I want to buy Microsoft shares, I buy them, if I want to buy bitcoin, I buy bitcoin. There's no reason to mix the 2 together and leave people with no option but to also have some investment in bitcoin if they want to invest in Microsoft.

Of course, companies can make financial investments and it's ok to make riskier investments if they are on a very small scale.

I think Microsoft, Apple and other tech companies are sitting on tens or hundreds of billions of "cash" that they have to invest anyway. Usually they buy bonds but also other assets. Would make sense to diversify a small part of it into Bitcoin.

They might regret it, but I think that it's mainly the older people who don't agree with it. They are used to the markets before crypto and it will be hard to convince them otherwise.

That company is smart, it knows it's a bull market right now and the price will go up, so it's not buying, it will start buying again in 2026.
