What would you code to make hive better if you were a developer name 3 additions.

I will start it of with my list by preference order.

  • Re-blogging tag on the home profile so there is an order between my blogs and my re-bloggs. (the only reason I don't do re-blogs tbh)
  • Sort by comments so I get the controventional posts right of the bat.
  • A functioning search browser.
  • Sort:

The different frontends should have an 'advanced' mode, where you have access to all raw chain data (like steemd/steemworld), so that casual users can learn how different this blockchain is from the usual web application, learn about signatures, keys and all the other good stuff.

Yeah there really should be more focus on that aspect at least be more easy for new users that are interested into those things to find them with more ease. up-1

    A functioning search browser.

Esteem has that. So does PeakD thanks to esteem.

Sort by comments so I get the controventional posts right of the bat.

What do you mean by that?

An option to sort posts by most commented as payouts does not really mean anything other than that a guy with a big stake vote for this one, which there is really nothing more to add to that.

There might be an actual interesting topic with a lot of engagement for the community with zero votes from whales for any numbers of reasons. and it will be lost in to obscurity from the rest of us the viewers. Most of the times that is how I browse Reddit they call it most controversial. And is fun to browse by that especially at politics and economics subreddits.

Ah yes, hopefully a frontend adds that filter. It shouldn't be too difficult. Just sort by comment count, max to min. I think PeakD has a spot for recommendations somewhere.

will go check that out thanks for stopping mate.

Funny, I was about to make a similar post:

    1. I would remove the 7-days payout period and make a system where posts would in some way remain able to receive votes regardless if they would be even years old. I know this would tax a lot on the blockchains transactions, but maybe make it so after the 7 days a post becomes inactive, but would become active for another 7 days if someone were to upvote it. What do I know?

I think this would promote much better behavior in terms of content instead of most posts being super shallow. It would also create much more incentive for already well-established content creators on other platforms to join in.

    1. Just like you Reblogging so it's not just a reblog, but it is possible to add a comment to it like if I were to reblog this post I could add a comment on top saying "What would you guys change on Hive?"

    2. Autovoting is a bit too lucrative, would be nice to see this gone as well.

Well it could pay out every 7 days and get back to zero that would attract bigger youtubers and stuff like that. I like it but I think it wouldn't work at this stage. probably when theres loads of people. It can be really easy to abuse as well. Interesting idea never the less

I agree with your points things that are tools for abusing the system should be put down. at least if they are going to exploit let them do that manually with a cooldown say 1 vote after every other 3 minutes. or some sorts.

    I generally agree with that.

I would remove the 7-days payout period and make a system where posts would in some way remain able to receive votes regardless if they would be even years old.

If this was possible, it would be possible to vote on the same post twice, by powering down and powering up with a different account.

True that. But then again, since powering down is slow and are occupying the current HP one would power down, wouldn't it just be easier anyways just making a bunch of comments or Posts and self vote those? I fail to see how this would make problems for abusing since there are already easier ways to abuse the system lol.

It would be exploitable. If it becomes more profitable to stay in powerdown and move the HP from account to account, people will actually do that.

This has been a question since the very beginning and (believe it or not) you are not the first one to make such a suggestion. Honestly, it is kind of stupid, like sun's idea to make the powerdown period shorter than the posting reward window. It makes no sense and doesn't fkn work. (lol)

Justin probably just plans to do exactly what you suggested lol.

Back in the olden days, posts would pay out once at the 24 hour mark, then once again at the 30 day mark.

Back then, the powerdown period was longer, too.

Oh yea, i remember the 2 year powerdown.

I just mention it, because the power down period can not be shorter than the post payout period.

The old system was better imo, at least it was a turn away point for those greedy spammers with zero interest on the platform.

I will reply with respect to the STEMsocial app that I develop.

The first of your items is on my to-do list. I already implemented long ago a comment ordering method but I think that here, there is no perfect choice. The third one would be great but this is a lot of work and low priority at the moment.

I agree having the three options you suggest would be great!

Thanks for getting into the trouble to let me know. I appreciate it. well the 3rd one is low priority for me. I usually google and add some keywords most of the time and I get to find what I am searching for in the first page of results. The other two are more important for me. I visited Stemsocial and logged in did some voting. You have done some good work there man. Especially the content you whitelist is awesome. Wikipedia tier good.

Thanks a lot for the nice words. We still have a long way to go (as shown in our roadmap). I do my best with the time I have...

I would built a front-end that tries to hide even more of the underlying blockchain than the current implementations. Instead of showing vote values, it'd just show vote counts and filter out the bots and voting trails. That way, I think you'd get a more organic valuation system. I would also build a recommendation engine similar to youtube or facebook, so you can get personalised recommendations.

This way, it'd look and feel just like a conventional social network, while still retaining all the benefits that the Hive blockchain brings.

    • Encrypted transfer memos.
    • A seamless instant messaging system using transfer memos.
    • Transaction signing in a local application (that can work offline) so one needn't ever put their keys into a web browser.

You've motivated me with this post. I'm going to go work more on these things now.

Functioning search bar would be really easy and sort by comments too. But again, does sort by comments will take into account all the blogs from the starting or it should be within a time frame like 7 days.

Good question. it should be for the posts that are not payed out yet so the 7 days time window would be ideal in my opinion.
