PAYBACK

I have something to tell you as a Civil Engineer busy working in a world of construction. Did you know? To give you stunning structure and amazing development in your area, we first destroy an important thing in Life?. The ENVIRONMENT.

Yes, youre right. It makes us bad, just to give the world a great evolution for the future we will live in. But we are not only good in destroying it, we also good about giving back what the environment deserves. Because we are just human who also care this beautiful gift of God. So what did we do?

Our construction industry created some methodology and campaign activities to lessen the pollution we have produced. Like Green Building program and using some Eco friendly materials in construction that create less carbon footprint.

Carbon footprint - the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere as a result of the activities of a particular individual, organization, or community that cause climate change.

HOW DO WE PARTICIPATE IN THIS CAMPAIGN?

Last July 24, 2021 the company, together with the developer of our project site organized a mangrove tree planting in Sabang, Olanggo island Cebu Philippines.

The program target was to plant 5000 pcs of mangrove seedlings in this coastal area of Sabang, Olango Cebu. We soaked every seedlings we had to fulfil the purpose of the program.

Having 70 participants on this social responsibility program, we accomplished the required number of seedlings we needed to plant.

I'm really glad I participated in this program. It has been a long time since I was able to do this kind of activity. As I remember my last time was during my college days. We were required to do a tree planting program before we could graduate 😅.(Did you?)

I think its a fixed program in the Philippines when you are graduating, which is really a nice program and I enjoyed it together with my crazy classmates.

This is not a Monkey or a Tarsier hahaha. This is sir Rey Lugo our Safety Manager of our project site who lead the program. He grew up from this island.

Sir Rey approached me and said "Look at that mangroves! We were the ones who planted it during my high school days in this island" ending his message with a big smile 😊.

His genuine smile affects me. You will see in his face how glad he was looking at the growing mangrove he planted .

The energy of fulfillment of this responsible person gives us excitement and it inspires us to achieve the 5000 seedlings.

Me and my colleague just enjoyed what we do. We were having fun planting the seedlings even it was high tide which gave us a bit of a challenge.

You will see the sparkling smiles of everyone. Because we know we did a useful activity to the environment. An activity that gives hope to the children and the next generation to see how beautiful the environment was given to us by God.

REASONS WHY WE NEED TO PROTECT OUR MANGROVE FOREST

1. MANGROVES ACT AS A DEFENSE LINE IN COASTAL AREAS

viber_image_2021-07-27_07-13-07-516.jpg

This happened to us when typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda devastated our region last November 2013. Our place Pinabacdao Samar is beside an ocean. We are so blessed that the coastal area of our hometown is surrounded by mangroves. The mangroves protected the place from the strong rising water of the ocean that saved the many lives in Pinabacdao.

2 . MANGROVE FORESTS ABSORBS CARBON DIOXIDE

viber_image_2021-07-27_07-14-48-323.jpg

Planting more mangroves will lessen the carbon footprint in our environment caused particular individuals or by construction industries like us which contributes a large percentage of carbon footprint.

3 . PROMOTES BIODIVERSITY

Mangrove Forests is a breeding ground for various marine species. Thus promoting and helping our our marine ecosystem to survive and reproduce.

4 . SOURCE OF INCOME

viber_image_2021-07-27_07-14-57-315.jpg

Many people living in and around mangroves depend on them for their livelihood like here in Sabang, Olango Island.

Having a water forest in coastal area attracts fish, crabs and shells for their habitat which provides additional source of food and income for the fishermans like here Olango Island.

5 . ENCOURAGES ECOTOURISM

viber_image_2021-07-27_07-14-53-868.jpg

The beautiful Mangrove Forest is not only for protecting people, it also gives us fresh air and stunning view that make us relax when you are in the forest. This forest also attracts tourism that gives additional income of the local.

One of the beautiful Mangrove Forest that I've been is in Santa Fe, Bantayan Island. I will also write up about it so you need to watch out.

REMEMBER! IF YOU PLANT TREES,
YOU PLANT HOPE NOT ONLY FOR HUMANITY
BUT ALSO FOR OUR WILDLIFE !!!😊

Amazing initiative guys! And great plant pick btw, mangroves are so important! I learned a lot about them when I lived in the Caribbean. Absolutely crucial plant in coastal areas of the tropics. You made my day with this post, thanks :)

@tipu curate

Very good post! And nice to see that more and more companies are striving for eco-friendly actions. But I have always been curious whether their suitability for the selected zone is studied before mass planting of trees. Will they become invasive species that will upset the balance?

Yes their is a case study in the area. The coastal area of sabang, olango island is one of potential place as breeding area of marines animals. Actually their is a fish sunctuary nearby of this mangrove forest.😊

I love how you give back to the environment. That's a great initiative! 🥰 good job for everyone! 🍾 We really need to protect our environment by being responsible all the time.

Yes indeed @sassycebuana , we need to protect the environment. 😊

Hello fellow CE-mate! This is @chriscapes, a newbie on this platform. Thank you for educating us a lot about mangrove planting. I also had experience engaging in this kind of program during my college days, only for once.
If not because of your post I didn't think that there are too many beneficial cause behind this activity. Still I'm glad for once in my life I get to participate this worth and life-saving program.

Thank you @chriscapes. I'm glad you learn something on my blog engineer 😊.

This is a very fulfilling activity! Great job guys!

Thanks 😊

Galing naman! maka kalikasan ka pala, hehehe. Keep it up!
