Hello all my reader friends, I hope you are doing great, today I want to share a new review with this great community, today I want to talk a little bit about a very interesting book... today I will give you my opinions of: When I Sing, Mountains Dance by Irene Solá, this book was an experience, but one of those that blows your mind... since I opened it, I felt that I was getting into something totally different, you know? it is one of those books that catch you because they are doing something so, but so out of the ordinary. . that was my first impression, it's poetic, it's weird, it's like nothing I've ever read before... I'm not going to lie, it's not an easy read, but if you dare to try something experimental, the reward is huge... the first thing that left me very satisfied was how it is narrated, each chapter has a different narrator.. and not all of them are people... yes, you read that right, the mountain itself speaks, also the animals, the plants, even the souls of the dead. . at the beginning I was like “What the hell is this?”, but then everything made sense...
This way of narrating, as if it was a choir, creates an incredible feeling of life, as if everything in the Pyrenees was connected and had its own story to tell, for example, there is a chapter that tells you about a storm, and it's so real and wild! you can feel all the chaos, all the force of nature, really, I think that in the hands of another writer, maybe this would end up being a disaster, but Solà does it in a brilliant way.. and talking about nature, the way he describes the landscape is another level.. for example, there is a scene where the storm breaks out in the mountains.. you can feel every gust of wind, every drop of rain hitting the rocks and changing the whole terrain, it's as if you were right there, in the middle of that power of nature... It's like watching those nature documentaries where the camera gets close to the tiniest details, showing you the secret life of a forest or a mountain... the Pyrenees here are not just a background, they are a living character, you feel the peace and beauty of the mountains, but also how brutal they can be... there is a constant tension between life and death, between creating and destroying, and all that is inside the story in such a beautiful way!
Hola a todos amigos lectores, espero se encuentren súper bien, hoy quiero compartir una nueva reseña con esta gran comunidad, hoy les quiero hablar un poco sobre un libro bastante interesante.. hoy les daré mis opiniones de: When I Sing, Mountains Dance de Irene Solá, este libro fue una experiencia, pero de esas que te vuelan la cabeza.. desde que lo abrí, sentí que me metía en algo totalmente diferente, ¿saben? es de esos libros que te atrapan porque están haciendo algo tan, pero tan fuera de lo común.. esa fue mi primera impresión, es poético, es raro, es como nada que haya leído antes.. no les voy a mentir, no es una lectura fácil, pero si te animas a probar algo experimental, la recompensa es gigante.. lo primero que me dejó muy satisfecho fue cómo está narrado, cada capítulo tiene un narrador distinto.. y no todos son personas.. sí, leíste bien, la montaña misma habla, también los animales, las plantas, hasta las almas de los muertos.. al principio yo estaba como "¿Qué rayos es esto?", pero después todo agarró sentido..
Esta forma de narrar, como si fuera un coro, crea una sensación increíble de vida, como si todo en los Pirineos estuviera conectado y tuviera su propia historia para contar, por ejemplo, hay un capítulo que te cuenta una tormenta, ¡y es tan real y salvaje! puedes sentir todo el caos, toda la fuerza de la naturaleza, de verdad, creo que esto en manos de otro escritor, tal vez terminaba siendo un desastre, pero Solà lo hace de una manera brillante.. y hablando de la naturaleza, la forma en que describe el paisaje es otro nivel.. por ejemplo, hay una escena donde la tormenta se desata en las montañas.. puedes sentir cada ráfaga de viento, cada gota de lluvia pegando en las rocas y cambiando todo el terreno, es como si estuvieras ahí mismo, en medio de ese poder de la naturaleza.. Es como ver esos documentales de naturaleza donde la cámara se acerca a los detalles más chiquitos, mostrándote la vida secreta de un bosque o una montaña.. los Pirineos aquí no son solo un fondo, son un personaje vivo, sientes la paz y la belleza de las montañas, pero también lo brutales que pueden ser.. hay una tensión constante entre la vida y la muerte, entre crear y destruir, y todo eso está dentro en la historia de una forma tan hermosa!
Basically, this book tells the story of a family that lives in the middle of the mountains, far away from everything... without spoiling too much, the life of this family is marked by pure tragedies: lightning strikes, bullets, losses... these strong things not only change the characters, but also show us what the book is about: how fragile life is, that death is a sure thing, and show us that connection that is not broken between us and nature, but not only the human characters are the important ones... The day to day problems of this family are mixed with magical things and things that go beyond what we see...it feels like the past, present and future are entangled, and the legends of the Pyrenees play a big role in all this, I loved how the author put these things in; it's like she invites you into a world where the ancient stories are as real as the stones and trees, one of the things I liked most was how the author goes from the normal to the magical without you even realizing it.
One moment you are reading about the pain of a woman who lost her husband, and the next, you are inside the head of a deer or listening to the mountain itself thinking about how things have changed in hundreds of years... it's as if the book is reminding you all the time that our life is just a tiny piece in something much bigger... it's something that humbles you, don't you think? Now, while I loved this book, it's not perfect either.
En el fondo, este libro nos cuenta la historia de una familia que vive en medio de las montañas, así, bien alejada de todo.. sin spoilearles mucho, la vida de esta familia está marcada por puras tragedias: rayos que caen, balazos, pérdidas.. estas cosas fuertes no solo cambian a los personajes, sino que también nos muestran de qué va el libro: lo frágil que es la vida, que la muerte es algo seguro, y nos muestran esa conexión que no se rompe entre nosotros y la naturaleza, pero no solo son los personajes humanos los importantes.. Los problemas del día a día de esta familia se mezclan con cosas mágicas y que van más allá de lo que vemos.. se siente como si el pasado, el presente y el futuro estuvieran enredados, y las leyendas de los Pirineos tienen un gran papel en todo esto, a mí me encantó cómo la autora metió estas cosas; es como si te invitara a un mundo donde las historias antiguas son tan reales como las piedras y los árboles, una de las cosas que más me gustó fue cómo la autora pasa de lo normal a lo mágico sin que te des cuenta.
En un momento estás leyendo sobre el dolor de una mujer que perdió a su esposo, y al segundo, estás dentro de la cabeza de un ciervo o escuchando a la montaña misma pensando sobre cómo han cambiado las cosas en cientos de años.. es como si el libro te estuviera recordando a cada rato que la vida de nosotros es solo un pedacito chiquito en algo mucho más grande.. es algo que te hace sentir humilde, ¿no les parece? Ahora, aunque este libro me encantó, tampoco es perfecto.
I must say that the book is short... maybe even too short, I devoured it in two days and I was left wanting to keep going, not that I needed more story (because the truth is, the plot is not the main thing here), but I lacked the time to connect more with those voices and let them settle in my head. . also, if you are one of those who prefer easy to follow stories and without so much tangle, this book may not be for you, the way it's written, so all experimental, can sometimes make you a little dizzy, and there are chapters that are better than others, I have to be honest. But to me, the beauty with which she writes and how original the idea is, that made up for it all, I think this book will appeal more to people who love poetic writing and who are not afraid of challenges.. if you like authors like Olga Tokarczuk or if you are into books that mix reality with fantasy, you will love this one for sure.. it is also a gem if you like reading about nature, because the way she captures the rhythms of the natural world, is impressive...
So, I give it a rating of 4.5/5. why not 5? Well, honestly, because this book is so daring, it gets very strange at times, it's not perfect, but it's one of those imperfections that thrills you and makes you think about all that literature can achieve, Irene Solà takes risks, and most of the time it works out amazing... If you are in the mood for something poetic, with atmosphere and that touches your soul (although sometimes those who speak to you are not human), I highly recommend When I Sing, Mountains Dance... just be prepared to let yourself go and let the book take you wherever it wants... and well friends, that's all for today, I hope you liked this review, take care, see you in the next ones! Debo decir es que el libro es corto.. quizás hasta demasiado,me lo devoré en dos días y quedé con ganas de seguir ahí metido, no es que necesitara más historia (porque la verdad, la trama no es lo principal aquí), sino como que me faltó tiempo para conectar más con esas voces y dejarlas que se asienten en mi cabeza.. también, si eres de los que prefiere historias fáciles de seguir y sin tanto enredo, es posible que este libro no sea para ti, la forma en que está escrito, así toda experimental, a veces te puede marear un poco, y hay capítulos que son mejores que otros, tengo que ser sincero. Pero a mí, la belleza con la que escribe y lo original que es la idea, eso lo compensó todo, creo que este libro le va a gustar más a la gente que ama la escritura poética y que no le tiene miedo a los retos.. si te gustan autores como Olga Tokarczuk o si te van los libros que mezclan la realidad con la fantasía, seguro que este te va a encantar.. también es una joya si te gusta leer sobre la naturaleza, porque la forma en que se captura los ritmos del mundo natural, es impresionante..
Entonces, le doy una calificación de 4.5/5. ¿por qué no 5? Pues, honestamente, porque este libro es tan atrevido, que se vuelve muy extraño a veces, no es perfecto, pero es de esas imperfecciones que te emocionan y te hacen pensar en todo lo que puede lograr la literatura, Irene Solà se arriesga, y la mayoría de las veces le sale increíble.. Si andas con ganas de algo poético, con atmósfera y que te llegue al alma (aunque a veces los que te hablan no sean humanos), te súper recomiendo When I Sing, Mountains Dance.. solo prepárense para dejarte llevar y para que el libro te lleve a donde quiera.. y bueno amigos, esto es todo por hoy, espero que les haya gustado esta reseña, cuídense mucho, nos vemos en las próximas! Relatas toda una experiencia agradable, es un libro para sentarse y estar atento a cada acontecimiento, ir uniendo canos y entender el significado de cada elemento. Lo voy a anotar por acá a ver si me animo. 😅
