[02/04/2022] Cinetalkies: Why to watch Spanish with Subtitles ?

"Your Favorite Spanish Cinema"

Spanish cinema is great. Maybe I say this because I understand Spanish, but who cares? It's chic, it's entertaining, and Spain has great actors. If you dont know Spanish, then Netflix offers you the facility to watch them with English subtitles.
If you have not watched Grandfather then you have missed something about Spanish Movies. Based on a novel by the spanish writer Benito Perez Galdós. Tells the story of an old aristocrat who returns home in old age, broke, and after having lived a life of adventure. But that is not all. There could be many other movies in Spanish, which you would like to recommend.

I’m not sure everyone would agree these are the “best” but I’d watch a film by Julio Medem or Pedro Almodovar any day over any mainstream movie. Both are known for their unique manipulation of light, storytelling, symbology, effects and eclectic characters.

The orphanage is one of the classic netflix movies which is originally spanish. Laura gets her child and husband to old house which was orphanage and her son meets five invisible friend. Its a classic movie only if you know spanish. But with the advent of Netflix you can watch it with subtitles or even in your own language.

I don't really know why but I think I never liked any movie or tv show from Spain.
I'm French so this isn't a culture really really far from me, I really enjoyed to have a week of vacation in Spain, but I don't know why I can't watch their movies :')

And the few time I did, that wasn't with subtitles but dubbed. I'm taking advantage of that French chance, each movie is dubbed and pretty well so.. 😅

But I'm watching the comments, maybe I could find something to watch ! !PIZZA

Its so good to see the honest response. I am really glad that you said it straight forwards that you don't like to watch Spanish. It is of course a personal choice.

I personally LOVE Spanish cinema! Since living in Spain for a little longer than a year, I've been watching many shows in Spanish and since discovered SO MANY great TV shows on Netflix. I will start summing up a few of my favs: Queen of the South, Elite, Pablo Escobar, muñecas de la mafia, Mar de Plastico and so many more haha. I really really love them, I've watched so many and got sucked into so many of these shows that I can't even think of all the titles. More will come though, I think I will write a post later with this topic.

La casa de papel was the last serie I watched in Spanish and omg.. it was amazing! It was what I was hoping would happen with game of thrones before the writers got bored and killed the series.

Watching it in Spanish hits different, the actors voices give the serie part of its charm and no dubbing that I tried did justice to their performances.

A really intelligent serie in its writing, both in plot as in dialogue, most of the time it's a nail biting and adrenaline pumping show with well placed slow burners and with few plot holes. The holes doesn't ruin any of the enjoyment or the suspension of disbelief.

All in all one of the greatest series of the last decade and one that I highly recommend to anyone.

It is certainly one of the best webseries. It is translated in other languages and is available on Netflix as Money Heist. The story goes like this - Eight thieves take hostages and lock themselves in the Royal Mint of Spain as a criminal mastermind manipulates the police to carry out his plan. It was a brilliant Spanish watch. Thanks @trashyomen for this.

Totally agree with you. Although I watched it on Netflix in English. It is very popular series worldwide as Money Heist. My Favourite Netflix Series, The Professor is kick ass Character. Good to see Netflix is bringing worldwide cinema to everyone and in many languages. Did anyone watched latest Netflix series, All of us are dead, I am planning to watch it this weekend. !PIZZA

Thanks for the pizza! Does this serie have any relation with the movie "#alive"?

I have many popular spanish movies, with English Subtitles, my favourite is Pan's Labyrinth, I am fan of Guillermo del Toro, a Great story teller. Also I am big fan of Penélope Cruz, so I have also watched her many Spanish movies with english subtitles, some are even available as unofficial hindi dubbed, lol but their quality is not good so I prefer watching with subtitles only. Volver 2006 is quite an interesting watch. !PIZZA

I barely watch so many spanish movies but I fell reckessly in love with "Money Heist". Bella ciao theme song lives free rent in my head even as I am typing, I am singing it. The movie would be considered one of the great series in the world, it was funny, action filled, filled with surprises and portrayed alot of life lesson. Professor was phenomenal, while the rest of the team had a unique character which synchronized perfectly

Personally, my favourite Spanish movie I have seen is La casa de papel(money heist), I couldn't but just have to wait in curiosity after every season was finished. It was the first Spanish movie that got me glued to the internet in search of latest episodes.

I absolutely adore foreign language films! I would say my favorite Spanish language film was Pan's Labyrinth, it had such a rich story and stunning cinematography that even if you didn't speak the language or read the subtitles you would still understand the movie and be entranced by it! A true cinematic masterpiece!
