Here are highlights of some of the lessons i learnt from today’s Bible study.
Brother Eli of blessed memory started the Bible study reading from the book of
2 timothy 2:15 “ Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth“. Emphasizing the fact the we should learn to use the Word of God in the right way.
Another point i would like to highlight from the Bible study is drawn from the book of Matthew 16:13-17 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist;(B) others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”(C)
15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”(D)
17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood,(E) but by my Father in heaven.
The story talks about Jesus asking His disciples/about who He is, we see from the scripture that His disciple were saying the opinion of others, then Jesus Christ swiftly asked who do they(His disciples) think He is, Peter answer in verse 16 that He is the Son of The Living God, and Jesus Blessed peter, saying that, It could only be God, His father who can reveal such a secret to him.
Following this verse, most people would be tempted to ask How did Jesus become the Son of God?.
Brother Eli pointed us to the book of Psalm 2:7 “I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee”.
We can see from this that, God said, He has begotten a Son. Another important factor brother Eli pointed out from the above verse was the significance of the “time” that God used. He explained that, the time God was referring to was before creation, because most people get the misconception that Jesus Christ life started during the time of His earthly birth, but we must remember that in John 17:5 Jesus said “ And now, Father, glorify me(A) in your presence with the glory I had with you(B) before the world began”
This is proof that Jesus has been present even before the world began, then in verse 24 of the above chapter Jesus also stated that “ Father, I want these whom you have given me to be with me where I am. Then they can see all the glory you gave me because you loved me even before the world began!”.
Brother Eli also pointed from (Ephesians 1:4 Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.)
In this verse, Paul was telling the Ephesians that God has already chosen men before He created the world, Brother Eli of blessed memory use the example of those who make eggs hatch, he said, they look at the shape of the egg, they then go on to remove all those that are pointed and keep them separate from the well rounded ones, the reason been, the pointed eggs would be females when they are hatched,
but this doesn’t apply to Jesus Christ as brother Eli stated that, Jesus Christ isn’t a plan, He has already been existing before the Creation of the world started. We can see this clearly from Colossians 1:16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.
These are some of the highlights from todays Bible study. Thanks for reading through.
