Basic Life Support Training: Preparing Teachers for Emergencies!

in Hive PH7 hours ago

It can be stressful to be a teacher because you never know when an emergency will strike. It serves as a reminder that teaching entails more than just following lesson plans, whether it's a student becoming ill unexpectedly, an earthquake drill becoming a reality, or an unforeseen classroom conflict.

I'm nervous and unprepared for emergencies because I'm a teacher, which is entirely normal. Unpredictable situations, such as a medical emergency, a fire drill, or a student having an emotional breakdown, can make you feel powerless.

This anxiety is frequently caused by the fear of making a bad decision or not knowing what to do when under pressure.

As a result, when DepEd offered Basic Life Support (BLS) teacher training, which is very real, I felt relieved and grateful. Having the knowledge and skills to handle emergencies, rather than worrying about them, is like lifting a weight. Knowing that you can deal with a distressed student effectively gives you a sense of security and confidence.

We conducted Basic Life Support last December, and I am incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn about the training that will benefit me and my students in an emergency.

Essential Life Support (BLS) Training for Teachers aims to provide educators with the critical life-saving skills they require in an emergency. Teachers are responsible for ensuring their students' safety while in class, and BLS training allows them to effectively respond to medical crises, accidents, and potentially fatal situations.

Educators must be prepared because emergencies can sometimes strike, and schools are unpredictable. Teachers are frequently the first to arrive at classrooms, playgrounds, or school functions. Before medical assistance arrives, prompt action can save lives.

This training primarily teaches us about the following:

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, is the process of administering rescue breaths and chest compressions to adults, children, and newborns.
Learn how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) to keep your heart beating normally.

First Aid for Choking: Understanding how to assist someone who is choking, including performing the Heimlich maneuver.

First Aid Basics covers common emergencies like cuts, fractures, fainting, seizures, and allergic reactions.

Emergency Response and Assessment: The ability to quickly assess a situation and take appropriate action before the arrival of professional medical personnel.

The initiative by DepEd to train teachers in BLS is an essential step towards ensuring school safety.

Essential Life Support (BLS) teacher training combines relief, self-assurance, and empowerment. Knowing I will know what to do in an emergency rather than panicking gives me a sense of security.

It alleviates the fear of not knowing what to do and replaces it with a willingness to act when necessary. Knowing that this training could one day save a student's life is also a profound sense of accomplishment. It feels more like a responsibility than a necessity.

The fact that Basic Life Support (BLS) is so empowering makes me feel less fearful in emergencies. There is confidence rather than panic. There is preparation rather than helplessness. I no longer have to question myself in critical situations as a teacher because I know exactly what to do.

Not only does it give me peace of mind, but so do my students. They rely on me to keep them safe, and I can now do so using my expertise. It serves as a reminder that teaching is more than just passing on knowledge; it is also about being a mentor and guardian in any situation.

I feel more competent, accountable, and in control of my work as a teacher now that I have gained confidence. It serves as a reminder that teaching is more than just imparting knowledge; it also includes ensuring students' safety and health. I can take charge in an emergency because I know Basic Life Support (BLS), which turns uncertainty into readiness and fear into action.

It also helps me feel more purposeful. Beyond the classroom, I'm establishing a safe learning environment where colleagues and students can trust me.

It is an incredible privilege and responsibility to be able to save a life if needed.
