It is a strange title and no that is not a clickbait, it's for real.
I went to the city of Almere in the Netherlands and that's the youngest city of the Netherlands!
it is literally built on the bottom of the sea, the old Southern Sea (Zuiderzee)
I am talking about the Flevopolder, that's is the biggest man made island in the world and it's entirely reclaimed from the Southern Sea! It was a project in 2 parts! They called it a polder but it's really an island because it's totally surrounded by water.
The first part of the project was the Eastern Flevoland and it started by building about 100 km of dikes in the beginning of 1950 and they last drop of water was pumped out in 1957! The second part of the project, Southern Flevoland, started in 1959 and there also about 100 km of dikes were build and in the end of 1968 the total amount of reclaims land was about 970 km2 (370 sq mi)
The first people or pioneers who lived on the land where pre-selected farmers that had the task to make a environment where they could build farms! from 1972 til 1975 there where about 50 people living there! Building farms so they could grow crops on the very fertile soil!
In the year 1980 the building of the city of Almere was in progress! In that year about 6600 people lived in the city's first community, Almere Port. Now a days there are two hundred and twenty thousand people living in the city!
I visited the city as an Instagram influencer together with a group of 20 influencer's from the Netherlands, like my previous post i did that together with Hey honeyguide and Visit Almere
This was a little introduction off Almere and here are some of the pictures I took!
This is part of the city harbor! As you can see its in theme! These benches look out over the water!
And on-top of the benches there is a lookout platform. If you want to see the view, you have to go yourself :)
The entrance of JD sports! No this is not a drone shot, just looking down from the balustrade!
This is the building of the tax-office of the province. The colors are amazing! And from every angles you can spot a new color. The art in the center of the yard is so cool, it looks like you are on another planet!.
I love this building! It's amazing to walk around there!
Here are some other random residence buildings. I am not a particular architecture photographer but the dude I was with, Marcorama Is one of the best architecture photographers I know in the Netherlands. go check out his account! He is awesome!
