Hello Photography Lovers! I'm stopping by to join in on the End of Year Contest put out by the community. I saw this as an perfect opportunity to look back at my year and reminisce about all the good times I've had.
2021 was the year where I started liking taking photos more and my favorite ones has already been shown off here in the community, in HaveYouBeenHere or other communities. Instead I decided to dig through my library and pick a nice memory for each month to talk about. The images I'm showing off in this post are therefore not those of the highest quality or my best photography of the year but those that bring back the most memories.
January
January was a white month in our town. I remember this one well. Me and @emuse was heading out to the airport to do some Geocaching. There was one hidden on top of a parking garage. We went up there and ended up not finding the cache but since the snow was falling heavily we ended up building a snowman. This was quite spontaneous so we didn't have the classic carrot for a nose nor pebbles for the eyes and mouth. He was a faceless snowman.
As a bonus, January of 2021 was also the month where I joined Hive.
February
To be honest I can't remember much of February. As I've said before on my blog the past isn't divided into months and weeks in my head. It all becomes the past. I had to go digging in my library and this is what I found. I remember @emuse had been gone for about a week and I baked some cookies and downloaded a new Super Mario game for us to play on the Nintendo Switch. The smile on her face when she got home was priceless!
March
Even though March is my birthday month my favorite image and memory is not of that day. It's from the day I tried out disc golfing which ended up becoming my new favorite hobby. I've played a whole ton since then. Just a couple of days ago I got a yearly summary from U-disc telling me how many holes I played and how many shots I took in 2021. I played 355 holes and took 1427 throws. My best score on a course was a -1 which is pretty decent!
April
April had a lot to pick from. It was a good month where I upgraded my PC and me and @emuse went on a lot of nice trips. My favorite one was detailed in this post. We went Geocaching all around the beach this day before taking a small hike to a mountaintop where we had an awesome lunch.
May
This picture wasn't taken by me, obviously, but it was taken with my phone. This was on the 17th of May, the Norwegian constitutional day. We had an awesome day that day in some great company. Covid regulations only allowed people to book a table at a restaurant or a cafe for two hours maximum so we had booked several tables at several restaurants. We went cafe and restaurant hopping!
June
In June I was able to go to a concert again for the first time since Covid hit. The band I saw was Kvelertak, a Norwegian metal band. This was kinda special because I was going to see Kvelertak the same weekend that Norway went into lockdown in March 2020. It was therefore quite awesome that they were the first band I got to see after/during the pandemic.
July
This one is probably my favorite photo of all time that I've taken myself. Me and @emuse's dad went on an awesome hike that I talked about in this post. It was a foggy day but that set the stage for some awesome photography. There's more to be seen in the original post for those interested.
August
August was another rough one because it was a month in where we did a lot of awesome stuff. One of those awesome things was a geocaching trip where we stumbled upon this little hut. It was benches, chairs and a fire place inside as well as several pictures of the Norwegian king and queen for some reason. It was kinda random but also a source of a great memory.
September
September was an easy pick. I went to see one of my favorite Norwegian punk-rock bands, The Dogs. I mentioned Kvelertak for June and that I was going to see them the same weekend Norway locked down. I was actually supposed to see The Dogs the weekend after that. The show was of course postponed to this date in September 2021. Coincidentally this was the exact day of the re-opening where Norway lifted all and every restriction due to Covid. Quite special.
October
For October I could easily have chosen one of the awesome animals I photographed at Oslo Reptile Zoo. Instead I chose this picture of cuddling my cat, Leo. This one is kinda special to me as it was the first time he came to cuddle me after he had to pull 13 of his teeth. He was mostly hiding under the bed for this period and only came out when we gave him painkillers. I'm glad he came around.
November
I already showed off most of what November had to offer in this post put out as a response to @emuse's November challenge. The best memory for November was when I surprised my dad to a stand-up show with one of his favorite comedians. We went out to eat an awesome burger beforehand and it was just an awesome night.
December
Decembers pick is Christmas related quite naturally. This was on the 1st day of Christmas where we went to my grandmas house to eat halibut. It's quite a nice relief from the heavy meaty dinner we had for Christmas day. It's of course awesome to be visiting my grandma as well. I haven't been able to do enough of that after Covid hit.
A year of memories!
So that's it! My year in review. My most favored memories of the year compiled into one post. This was an awesome post to do and I want to thank the crew in the Photography Lovers community for putting out this initiative!
All images in this post are taken by me.
That may photo is straight 🔥🔥🔥
I'm also digging the one from July.
What a great year it was, despite the odds at hand.
Yep! I hear everywhere that 2021 sucked but looking back at these memories I can't agree. Let's hope 2022 can both equal and surpass this year!
That's an awesome post and awesome initiative mate. I forget you're still a relative newbie! Photos are brilliant and prove the pandemic didn't need to ruin everything.
Best wishes to you and your better half for 2022.....
Fella, you are punching way aboye your weight ;-)
