The use of social media in promoting music or movies in the entertainment industry is one that has brought about promotion and world recognition but at the same time hatred in the various sectors. It is normal for artists, actresses, actors to have their fan base but one thing that is not valid is the fact that some fans tend to be toxic to the opponents of their favorite artist.

Toxic fandom has been a challenge in the music industry for a while now and it is eminent on various social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, threads, tiktok etc. It has become so bad that it brings up unhealthy rivalry amongst artist, sometimes these fans go to the extreme to dig up the pasts of these artists so as to destroy their careers. In turn, issues can arise, online verbal exchange on social media amongst fanatics can bring about morale breakdown and even mental stress.

Based on our daily experiences on social media concerning Toxicity from fans to artists, it has become a norm to pass across negative comments to damage people. This is why I am in support for the regulation of social media comments because most of these comments can bring about suicide, loneliness, disconnection and sadness in a person's life.

We have seen various case where cyberbulling causes harm on an artist self esteem. We really do not know what these artists go through because they act strong like the words do not affect them but down, they feel the pain and hurt. Some popular toxic fan base includes Wizkid fc, 30bg,underappreciation, body shaming, gender base Toxicity, fan wars etc.

Another negative effect of a toxic fan base is that it could bring about tension amongst artist. Some artist has been discouraged from several collaborations because of what people say and how they react. Relationships have been damaged within the industry, some artist now throw banters amongst themselves, this even happens in the movie industry. Some of such occurrences are between Wizkids fans and David's fans, they are always arguing that their idol is better than the other and vice versa.

The issue of gender inequality in the industry is faced by the women, fans pressure them to do more than is expected and to live a perfect life forgetting that they are humans and can make choices of their own.

In conclusion, toxic Fandom is real and consistently affect the healthy relationships between both fans and the artists. People should learn to communicate in peaceful manners that will not tarnish the image of artists.
