Good morning family . Hope we are doing good.
Diabetes is a disease that is mostly associated with either insufficient secretion of insulin or resistance to insulin as a result leading to increase in plasma glucose level.
Diabetes could be of two types;
- type one and
- type two
Type one diabetes is mostly associated with lack of secretion of insulin as a result of destruction of the Beta cells that are responsible for the synthesis of insulin.
The types of type one diabetes are;
*immune mediated and
*pathological mediated
Type two diabetes is mostly associated with insufficient secretion of insulin or resistance of the cell to insulin.
Some risk factors associated with diabetes include;
- high blood pressure
- disease condition like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
- insomnia
- drugs such as thiazides diuretics and beta blockers, etc
Symptoms associated with diabetes
- frequent urination
- extremely thirsty
- feeling hungry despite eating enough
- unexplained weight loss
- blurred vision
- slow healing of cuts and bruises
- extreme fatigue or tiredness
RANGES OF BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS
- LOW SUGAR LEVEL <3.5 mmol
- NORMAL SUGAR LEVEL 3.5 - 5.5mmol
- PRE DIABETES 5.6- 7.0mmol
- DIABETIC>7mmol
The world diabetic day was actually celebrated on the 14th of November. I was engaged in sensitising our clients and patients about the management of diabetes and also checking blood sugar level free for some clients.
Photos were taken which I would like to also share with us.
