I'm Ethos Fetch Mania (And I have/am a secret I'd like to share with you)

in #introduceyourself8 years ago (edited)

My Name is Ethos Fetch Mania

There's somewhat of a story behind the name I've chosen for myself (I personally identify with this name, it's more than just a screen name to me) but the name itself is far more interesting than where it came from. In short it's an anagram of The Secfothamnia (pronounced sĕk fō thäm nē ə). When I tell people this in person it usually results in something along the lines of them asking "The Secfo-what-ia?"  At this point I usually can't help myself and I start speaking in riddles, "I am the Secfothamnia. You are the Secfothamnia. We are all the Secfothamnia." In all dramatic, theatric exaggerations and yet in all and total seriousness the fact that I'm just a sci-fi fantasy role playing geek at heart tends to go over most people's heads or just misses them totally in some other fashion that doesn't have some catchy term affixed to it.

And while I tend to go into what some might call character, laying it on thick with voices and even if the mood strikes me song (yes, I've been known to burst out in sudden song, though never dance so I suppose I haven't yet ascended to full on musical yet. lol. fear the day mortal world, for some day soon I will have you in the certainty of my grasp and you will not deny my prowess in that day when the song overwhelms you and you all become unwitting participants in my grand evil overlord operatic theme/overture wherein I relate the sinister details of my plan.)

But like I said the actual story of how the Secfothamnia came to me is rather uneventful. A very small number of people will recognize it as a screen name used to sign up for the Nine Inch Nails forum (when there was such a thing). I swear on all things unholy/holy (which ever floats your boat) that as I sat there signing up for the forum it just popped into my head and I spelled it out how it sounded in my head.

I then went through the meticulous process of rearranging letters t0 find words that spoke to me on a deeper level until at last after many long sleepless nights I discovered a name hidden deep within not only my psyche, but the psyche of every living human on the planet earth. (lies! I used an anagram generator and picked out words I liked and then re-entered the remaining letters generating a new list of anagrams to choose from. But the more interesting take is there if you wish to read it.)

There are many anagrams to the Secfothamnia, each of them having their own complex and uniquely deep cascade of layers to them but none so personal as that which I choose to consider my name, Ethos Fetch Mania. An anagram that I did discover without the use of an online anagram generator is that "Secfothamnia" is an anagram for "a soft machine" (rearrange them for yourself if you don't believe me).

  • Ethos of course is the characteristic spirit of an era as often manifested as core held beliefs and aspirations.
  • Fetch has meanings that most people are unaware of, my favorite being the archaic meaning of "the apparition or double of a living person, formerly believed to be a warning of that person's impending death."
  • Mania has no hidden or vastly unknown meaning that I know of, just you run of the mill madness! (WE'RE ALL MAD HERE!!!)

But the title promised a secret, so I'd better make good on that delivery if I hope to make a positive impact with the Steemit community! In a fit of counter intuitive thinking I'll divulge the full simplistic nature of the secret here and now without further delay. THE SECRET IS THAT language is such a power tool for the transmission, storage, decoding, encoding and communication of thoughts and ideas that in a moment of blank inspiration by merely conjuring up sounds in my head I was able to manifest something like a precious stone or prism capable of breaking apart the spectrum and revealing the secrets of the light and of myself and the world around me. Was that a bit long winded? Allow me to try again and this time to sum it up for easier consumption.

Time Hath No Faces

There is a hidden matrix of language inside of your mind that if unlocked and tapped into can unlock secrets you couldn't imagine.

He Chants of a Time

Neath He Fiat Cosm

(I look forward to becoming a part of something emerging and watching how it evolves, grows and expands over time. I see much potential for this platform. Hopefully one day I'll be writing my own piece on how I've managed to make what can only be described as very descent sums for the creation of content.)
