Welcome to Steemit @maryxjane. First off a few things to keep in mind:
Key security. You have a master password to your account. Try to never use this unless you need to recover your account in full. It's best to only use your posting key to log in and vote as well as post. Use the active key for wallet transactions and the like. This is the best way to keep your account secure and free from being hacked.
Try to use the correct tags when creating content. You have use of five tags. If ever you are in doubt as to what category your content she be published under refer to other users works in a similar vein.
People are big on using spamming links to hack others accounts. Always check a link before you click.
There are a lot of folks who are big on fighting plagiarized content here. Always include image source credits so it doesn't look like copyright. Same goes for quoting others. It's just easier to do than not and will keep folks from calling something you worked on plagiarized.
So that's it for newbie starter tips. If you throw yourself at working hard on Steemit you can do well here. Just produce heartfelt good quality content. Making money here doesn't come easy, but you can do it with good old fashioned elbow grease. Best of luck.
@mudcat36 thank you! I will definitely keep my eyes open for weary links.. didn't think that could happen here but I suppose it's still the internet. Thanks for the heads up about sourcing (reminds me of school again hehe)
