This is my entry to the Kudos Poetry Competition sponsored by @damianjayclay and @nikisteem.
This poem comes from several phone calls from just last night. Which brings to mind an eternal question: How many times are we to we help our brother?
As many times as it takes, until we truly cannot continue.
At some point, your brother must shoulder his own weight and whether crawling or stumbling, carry it forward.
Your Burden Now
Puppy dog eyes bleed
through the phone.
The promise, the threat
of suicide
again.
Did you forget you’ve said
these worn drunken words?
...if only someone cared…
This time.
My heart wears scars
won enduring years of your battles.
Take my hand.
Note my resolve.
Your burden now is proof.
