Sunrise at Ardnakinna

Sunrise at Ardnakinna on the western tip of Bere Island, Co. Cork. The lighthouse guards the entrance to Berehaven, the narrow channel between the island and the town of Castletownbere on the mainland.

Even though the lighthouse is on a relatively large, inhabited island close to the mainland, supplies and equipment have to be airlifted in, as there is no road access, just a footpath. The supplies don't have to come from far, however. The main southwestern depot of the Commissioners of the Irish Lights is only a couple of kilometres away in Castletownbere.

This photograph is one that I could really only have taken with a drone because to get to this vantage point, I would have had to walk over private land. Instead, I was able to fly my drone to the location from a nearby road without trespassing.
