Indonesian's funny English billboards and actions
It's just funny how most Indonesians think their english is good and keep defending their pride and think that they are so correct.
When you tell them that their English is not correct or that they can speak a little bit English, they feel offended.
They think that they're speaking and writing is 100% correct.
This is a BIG joke, they do not want to learn to be better in any matter. They do have a high pride and not want to see their mistakes.
Here are some pics where you can see how they write in English:
Well here are some examples of my own experiences regarding the Indonesian mentality in general for at least 90%.
Example 1
I was in a restaurant of the apartment called "Dixies" last week and I ordered spicy ribs, which they had in stock. Then I asked for a few slices of plain bread. Have you got this, I asked? Where the waitress replied:
“No, we do not have, we have only toasted bread.”
Then I said if you do not put the bread in the toaster, then you have plain bread. That was very difficult for her, but after much insistence she succeeded to understand. They have trouble calculating a price for it, or often they are just too lazy to do so, since they not get paid for that. They do not realize this at all.
I’s not customer-friendly, because, as often said, they only think about their own salary and what has been explained/programmed in their brain as a robot. Thinking for themselves is rare.
Example2:
I order a roasted chicken with some fries and a salad. I asked: "Do you have some peanut sauce with it?" Answer: No, we do not. I say: ? But you also have gado gado (dish with peanut sauce)? Yes we have that.
I say: Instead of the peanut sauce with the gado gado, put it next to the fries. With my still inadequate Indonesian I explained it with difficulty, a lot of sign language was of course also involved. Eventually they understood, but for the price it was too difficult, since they do have have a dish like that.
Example 3:
I go to one of Jakarta's shopping malls. I went to a restaurant (often happens). I ordered a tasty steak with vegetables and fries with a drink.
Then about the drink. I would like an iced tea, but this will be served in a small cup, it is too small for me. Now they also have large Pepsi cups. So I said: “May I have 2 ice tea cups and then pour it into the large Pepsi cup. Answer: “but you can not, mister, sorry, this only for pepsi”.
The manager came and they were discussing with his four people.
I explained first to get rid of that stupid nagging and said: “Okay just give me two iced teas”. So I immediately took action, I grab a Pepsi cup, I pour the 2 cups with iced tea into the big Pepsi cup, and done!. It fits exactly too. Then he understood what I was talking about. The following times that I came there, he knew exactly what I wanted(after 5 times). That is how I teach the people a bit, but it makes little sense for them.
Example 4
We had been to the Fuzion restaurant. That is a restaurant next to my apartment. Normally we always let them deliver. This time we wanted to have food delivered at first, but immediately after that we changed our minds and called back again to say that we are going to eat in the restaurant and that they should NOT deliver the food.
Well, we were there and then there was a sign saying "when you eat in the restaurant, you get a teh botol (iced tea) for free". When my girlfriend asked for this, the waitress said, yes, but you had already called so the delivery had already been processed. I told her that she can still see that we are eating in the restaurant. Oh yes she said, and so after I said that, I got the free ice tea, but they always try first to give a idiotic/brainless remark. They just don’t understand what service means.
I do not know exactly where the lack of logical thinking comes from. I first thought about education, but I'm not too sure about that because doctors and people with high positions seem to have the same problem. Education does of course matter, I think.
Perhaps it is mainly due to the breed and history because Indonesians have largely lived under dictatorship and are used to not thinking for themselves, but to follow rules, however ridiculous they may be.
