Sometimes I really get deep into thinking about the nuances of life and the several phases and aspects of it that a person experiences from birth till death. One of the major ones is what is the meaning of life when death is inevitable but that is a discussion for some other day. Today, I want to talk about something else.
Today I want to talk about how you are a traveller and the things and people that come into your life at various points in time are simply like tourists as you make your way towards the final destination. In other words, almost everything is temporary in life and this realization is a huge one if you think about it.
You may have heard people say that you shouldn’t get too attached to things or people or even circumstances and it totally makes sense why they would say so. Since most things are temporary, being too attached to them would only take a huge emotional toll on you when they inevitably go away.
This Too Shall Pass
This is another saying that I have heard many times and I think now I finally understand it completely. There are good times in life and there are bad times in life. We have all had both and this is simply how life functions. So, whether you are going through some great times or some rough ones, this sentences holds true.
So, as you can see, even the good and bad times are temporary. The same goes for things. Just try to go back to when you were a child and all the things you had. You probably don’t have most of the things from that time. Similarly, all the things we acquire in the present, won’t be there in a more distant future.
Finally, we also make lots and lots of friends since our childhood, and most of them take their own roads somewhere down the line. Even they are temporary. The same also goes for your relationships where sometimes people are literally like tourists in your life. They come, they stay and then they leave.
Why You Need To Realize This
So, realizing the temporary nature of things is important because then it teaches you to not get too attached to anything in your life. Not to people, not to things and not to situations. It helps you become more adaptive and sort of liberates you where you don’t feel the need to clutch everything so tightly.
Ultimately life doesn’t have a meaning anyways. On the timescale of the universe, our short human lives are just a flashing moment and all the things that we overthink and cry over are ultimately, meaningless in the grand scheme of things. If you are able to realize this much, you are already on your way towards liberation.
So, live your life freely but that doesn’t mean you stop loving people or things. You have to still do that because without that, I don’t think we can be called human beings. But in your heart, know that nothing lasts permanently. So, enjoy everything while they last :)
Thanks I really needed to read that today. It is all things that I know to be true but I forget the truth of that sometimes.
We basically know all things that we need to. But when it is time to apply, we tend to forget. I am glad my post could help :)
Some amazing shots you've got there, especially the second one. Really just wants to make you drift off into the distance
These are not my photographs actually. But yes, they are really special.
I don't know why people think you are heartless when you don't get too attached to things. I mean they can make a good case for their argument but somehow they fail to realize that the person who is trying to remain unattached is doing just that.......trying. He is trying to make an effort for something he has decided to do and yes it takes effort to remain unattached. Our nature pulls us in one direction and our good sense pulls us in another.
To remain unattached is a part of the process of moving onto things that are more important. It is not a condition that you trip and fall into.
No it is not argument for avoiding responsibility but it is an argument for taking responsibility of ones own self.
@travel-cuisine - those are good words. They got me thinking so I wrote few of my own. Thanks.
Thank you so much for that thoughtful comment. I am glad you agree because those are my thoughts as well. :)
Glad you agree. Thanks for the reply
Everything is temporary; emotions. thoughts,. people and scenery, do not become attached, just flow with it,.
True words :)
Beautiful post. It's very true that nothing lasts forever, whether good or bad. We have to take life as it is, with pains and happiness altogether. In what I do, whether it is motivational speaking or coaching or my blogging, I try to show people that pain is temporary and that it always carries some lesson which benefits us in the long run. The best way to keep our happiness is being happy with what we have, this present moment and stop sweatting the small stuff.
Thank you so much for the thoughtful comment :) Your words reminded me of another saying "Pain is temporary, strength is permanent" :)
OK :D
