Red Cedar Fishing Shack going orange ... Here I am snow shoeing along the Rideau River way up North.
Checking the Ice.
It’s thick now.
Time for some ice fishing. Stay tuned for video from the River.
Fishing for Pickerel (Walleye) , Bass, Pike, and whatever may be swimming below... maybe an 8’ sturgeon or Muskie... whatever bumped the bottom of my kayak this summer ... it was a Monster... maybe the Lochness .... the Rideau River Leviathan
Some Tall Tails: Fact and Fiction
Sturgeon can live to be more than 100 years old! The white sturgeon can grow 20 feet long and weigh more than 1,500 pounds!
Now imagine trying to pull that up through an 8" hole in the ice. I pray to God I never get a Sturgeon on my hook...
Muskellunge are typically 28–48 in (71–122 cm) long and weigh 15–36 lb (6.8–16.3 kg), though some have reached up to 6 ft (1.8 m) and almost 70 lb (32 kg). According to past references the muskellunge attains 8 feet (244 cm) in length; this, however, has never been confirmed and is based most likely on exaggerations.
Even a Muskie would be too big for me. A few years ago I caught a Northern Pike that barely squeezed through the hole. Great tasting fish but lots of tiny bones.
Pickerel (Walleye) are the best tasting fish on planet earth. Difficult to catch in winter. Last year we caught one on a lake north of Sudbury Ontario and panfred over the fire... right on the ice. It was wonderful.
I like fishing as well and can't wait for that fishing video of yours. In our part of the world sturgeon is prohibit to fish for many years. From what I've heard is very tasty.
Yeah I sure hope I don’t get one on my hook
You ever see those videos on YT of the guys out there in kayaks with whales and sharks and all!!! Yikes!
Yeah.... those guys are crazy... I almost tip over when I see a bass swim by. Luckily my kayak is a Wilderness Wide bottom so not very tippy,
👍 😊
