. The life path of a successful male Lion is one that consists primarily of sleeping, eating, fighting, and mating. For those of you unfamiliar with The Lion's Path here's the basics
. Male lions spend on average ~18 hours a day sleeping and will sleep up to 22 hours when they feel like it.
. They very rarely hunt their own food, the women of the pride usually work in teams to bring the food back
. The male always eats first. They eat on average ~18 pounds a day, and will eat up to 65 pounds when food is abundant.
. The Male Lions always eat first because they have spent, and will continue to spend, their ENTIRE lives fighting for what they have as well as fighting to protect it.
. Only 1 in 8 male cubs will survive into adulthood. They are usually kicked out of the pride at the earliest signs of maturity and have to find a way to overthrow the leader of a pride in order to survive.
. Once a Lion has established himself as the dominant male lion through such an overtaking, he will wipe out all of the cubs of his predecessor.
. He will mate with ALL of the females of the pride to create a new generation of his own offspring.
. This is to reinforce the principal that only the strongest are worthy of life.
. They mate every 15 to 20 minutes for about two to three days at a time (each round lasting only a couple of seconds at a time)
. Fun Fact: The Darker the Mane, The Older the Lion and the females prefer to hunt with the males with the longest and darkest manes.
. It doesn't end here though, for now the Lion that overtook knows he will one day be the Lion that is overthrown.
. The Lion must fight any and every threat that comes his way to protect his offspring and his pride from suffering the same fate as those that came before him.
. 4 years is about the average amount of time a Lion will control a pride.
. So, in summary, Lions conquer a piece of their world and establish an empire they believe is best for that piece of land, they sleep and mate during times of peace, and fight in times of strife to protect the pride.
The Lion truly is a noble creature that innately understands its purpose in the greater scheme of its time here on Earth.
The next time you are faced with a challenge - when doubt and fear begin creep their way into your mind - remember The Lion's Path and realize that you too can tap into the reserve of courage these creatures embody everyday.
"Did you think the Lion was sleeping because he didn't roar?" - Friedrich Schiller
