RE: Thank You For Helping Me Reach 70 Rep! // 20 SBD Giveaway – Building Community

in #milestone6 years ago

Congratulations Lea, big achievement!! I'm guessing I would need a few years before reaching 70 :) I know that gaining a reputation point becomes harder with each point. Just out of curiosity, how long did it take roughly to go from 69 to 70? Man, this will be a commenting bonanza! Best idea ever! And btw, I like the new backdrop you have in this video. Your studio really came out nice ;)

Ok something about me: My dad is Austrian, my mom is Dutch, my sister lives in England, my girlfriend is American, I live in the Netherlands, I work in Germany, my girlfriend lives in France. How international is your life?

Wow! Being a homeschool mom I can use your life as a geography lesson! Lol! That's awesome!

Thanks! I think visiting other places and expose yourself (or better, your homeschool kids) to different cultures is the best way to teach! Is the homeschooling a choice or necessity for you? Necessity, in sense of being isolated from good schools or something like that.

If you ever in need of help with teaching math of physics, I'm happy to offer my knowledge on these topics. I have a master in science and love math and physics 8-)

Why thank you! How kind of you! Well, we have chosen to homeschool given what we see in the mainstream, however, our kids still participate in local sports, theatre, music and 4-H. I always thought my kids would attend public school as my husband and I did, but after working at a public school in California, I changed my mind.

My kids are all avid readers. Even my 2 yr old will sit for 30 minutes alone just thumbing through a book! He used to prefer textbooks- I think he liked that they were thicker than typical kids' books, but lately his favorite is "Hop on Pop" by Dr. Seuss. He has most of it memorized and "reads "it to himself. I keep trying to catch him on camera, but he is too aware of me.

That's great! I too have the opinion that the current school system (in my area) is sub-optimal. When done right children can benefit tremendously from proper homeschooling!
The laws on homeschooling here are very strict here, which makes homeschooling practically impossible.

We purposely chose the state we live in because of the freedom to choose how to educate our children. It's a tragedy that people around the world aren't able to raise their children the way they see fit.

wow!!! you are a family of mixed race! I love it hahahahaha.. cool indeed!

so how do you balance the schedules of visit? hehe

Yeah, it's quite interesting having many different views at the dinner table :) Typically the big discussion is about where to celebrate the Christmas holidays. The rest of the years we all play it by ear more or less :)

hahaha i magine you all sitting in one table talking all at the same time. its a pretty chaos!

My gosh man, consolidate locations! Thats crazy, how much time do you spend traveling?

Ah, my weekends are typically full but it's not too bad :) I see you are from California. I think typically people there have to travel way more miles to get somewhere :) What town are you at? My girlfriend is from LA

Well, I work within 10 miles of my job, not so bad, nice drive through a valley to get there. I live in Ventura County. Snow, Beach, Nightlife, Amusement Parks, National parks and Lakes all within 2 hours of where I'm at.

That sounds pretty sweet! I’ve traveled through California now quite a few times. Coming from a densly populated country, the natur overthere is crazy beautiful! Love it there!

how often do you meet your whole family? =)

Haha depends how you define family :) Me and my gf's families did meet a few years back. My sister was over from England with her boyfriend, and my girlfriends family came over from Los Angelos. Although it was fun, the house was full :P

Quite interesting.
